Bio
Senegal AstroTurf is a five piece Canadian band hailing from the small town of Welland, Ontario.
Their sound combines elements of many genres; while self described as "Slow-core Polka Metal", actual elements include math-rock, post-rock, progressive, psychedelic, punk, folk and ambient. Though highly technical, with songs often incorporating irregular, and sometimes multiple different time signatures, the music always flows with a natural groove. This makes the question "What kind of music do you guys play?" a difficult one to answer. Though often likened to bands such as Pink Floyd and Tame Impala, the sound of Senegal AstroTurf is truly unique.
The band was originally formed in 2011 by high school friends Levi, Graeme, Erroll, and Nick. A year later, with Levi, Graeme, and Erroll having graduated and Nick in his last year of high school, Brandon - who shared a music class with Nick - was added to the band and work on their first album began.
During the summer of 2013, the EP Live From... was recorded and released on Bandcamp. In late December that year, the band recorded with Dale Morningstar at the Gas Station studio on the Toronto Islands, and later with Dr. Johnny Pee at Levi's Birdland house in Wainfleet, Ontario. Post-production of their debut album was undertaken during the first half of 2014, leading to the release of Language on September fifth that year.
