Bio
Roy Rogers started his music career in 1931 and joined the Rocky Mountaineers. As his career started to grow, he decided to start his own group. In 1933 he co-founded the "Sons of the Pioneers" with Tim Spencer and Bob Nolan. The "Sons of the Pioneers" became famous on the radio, and just under a year after formed they signed with Decca label. In just two years they recorded 32 songs for Decca, including "Cool Water" and "Tumbling Tumbleweeds"in 1938, Roy Rogers won the pick as the "new" singing cowboy for Republic Pictures, turning his radio career to film. He was an instant sensation and exceeded the popularity of his predecessor, Gene Autry. His film career did not hurt his music career, but in fact helped it, as his films allowed his music to reach a wider audience over longer periods of time. The 1940's was the height of his popularity, and it was during this time he married actress/singer Dale Evans, who he would perform duets with.In the 1950's Roy Rogers turned away from movies and towards television, and again focusing on his music. He performed live and on his television shows. Additionally, he focused more on gospel music during this time and was invited to perform at several Billy Graham Crusades.Roy Rogers has 3 stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, one for film, one for television and one for radio. He was inducted into the Western Performers Hall of Fame in 1976 and twice into the Country Music Hall of Fame in the 1980's. His 1991 album, "Tribute" ranked 17 on the Billboard's Top Country Albums Chart.
