Are you originally from Charleston?

I was born and raised in Charleston.

What’s the origin of Pitch Rx ?

I used to go by Dropping Joints Magically and had shows all over the South East and hundreds of likes on Facebook , but I ended up having to quit playing live for a brief period and get healthy (go to rehab) because all I was doing was partying and traveling and wasn’t taking care of me.
Have you Had a Dj “Name” Before?

I wanted to start all over after I got my mind right and wanted to come back with a bang. I thought of music and about how it is medicine for the soul and wanted to captivate that in my stage name and immediately i thought of Pitch Prescription or pitchRx for short.pitchRx is my stage name.

Did the Djing, Production, Promoting come 1st?

From a promotional perspective I thought that pitchRx was more catchy and about how many people know Rx is the universal sign for prescription and catches most peoples eye (or at least it catches my eye).

When did you form your band? What inspired you to make music and DJ?

When i was about 7 or 8 I got a drum set, and from the drums I moved to the bass guitar and I decided to get turntables and started scratching and messing with different albums. Shortly after I got an MPC 1000 and started messing with different computer software for music production and mixing. I started with Fruity Loops and used to produce rap beats and rap in a local group. My good friend Ike who used to live in Charleston and go by Ike Love showed me the ropes with abelton, so I started working with abelton. It is not as easy as everyone thinks I put so many hours into perfecting my sound and quality and endless nights watching tutorials in the beginning. I would consider my music to be ghetto-tech/dub/rap influenced dub step/trap remixes.

Who are your major influences?

My major influences when I first started performing live was Justin from Archnemesis. I watched him start with The Chronicles of the Landsquid and then he stop playing with landsquid and did his solo act M.O. Theory for a while before jointing up with Kurt from Telepath to form Archnemesis.
Do you prefer to perform live or have some pre recorded options available?

I first started playing live in I believe it was 2007 with my buddy Jimmy who used to drum with me. We did every Thursday at Henry’s upstairs before they added the night club.

Do you have a record label? Are you a member of any music organizations?

I am an independent artist in every sense from sampling to production to booking. I do it all by myself now that my old manager had to move back to Tennessee and I started from scratch as pitchRx. I now use Abelton 9 Suite and an APC 40 for live performances. I love anything Akai. I use their MPK49 for studio production and have been using their equipment since I first got their MPD 32.

Who are some of the artist you’ve work with/collaborated with ?

As an artist I have done events such as Boombutywah 10′, Impulse Music & Arts festival 12′ & 13′, as well as official Biscuits after parties and have worked with a multitude of artists in the industry such as DJ Vadim, Nasty Nasty, Mimosa, Epcot, Eprom, NicoLuminous, Archnemesis, The Polish Ambassador aka Ample Mammal, Kap 10 Harriss, Dirty Dannis, Elliot Lipp, Bitch Please, EP3, DJ: C3,AV8TR, Pericles, Landsquid, t8tr(tot), Dj Kids Meal,Dr. Fameus, Mindelixir, Sumilan Agobi Project, Medisin, DJ Bowie, Selector Cleofus, Devanwho, Archnemesis, Jables, Bookworm, Arpetrio, Truly Millhouse Grimy, This is Art, Brownee, and Booty Sweat, White Noise Willis, Noise Org. and the Malah. I would have to say my favorite venue in Charleston to play is the Pour House, but otherwise I really like Asheville Music Hall or 90 proof in Tennessee.

What are your favorite and least favorite venues?

I don’t really have a least favorite venue as long as I am playing music and spreading good vibes I don’t care where it is. SilentCity has been throwing the best and most consistent parties as of late and I am glad I have gotten the chance to be a part of their events.

Could you briefly describe the music-making process?

It is hard to explain the process, but it all starts with sampling then I move to my bass or drum rack to lay down a skeleton and from there I just build it up from their adding stems and filters and such.
What are your rehearsals generally like? Do you have a set time each week in which you practice or are rehearsals more spontaneous?

I don’t really rehearse because I work on my music in some kind of way everyday.

How has your music evolved since you first began playing music

I think the evolution of my music has gone hand in hand with how I have evolved as a person, but I would say my transitioning has gotten smoother.

What has been your biggest challenge as a DJ? Have you been able to overcome that challenge?

I think my biggest obstacle as pitchRx was reinventing myself and my sound. That is pretty much my story. I wouldn’t be in the position I am today without the love and support from my Fiancé Rebecka, the help of my old manager Sean Thompson my brother Mark another local artist (BLKMRkt) and my family and friends who have supported me from the beginning. - Where We Stand Magazine

Bio

Casey hailing from The Port City of Charleston, S.C. Known by many as the production man of the former duo dropping joints magically.I got my start making instrumentals for local hip hop artists and it just took off from there. I switched from FL Studio to Ableton and started reinventing myself from the ground up as pitch prescription (pitchRx). My tracks have been shaped by the geechieness of the port city. I don't like to really put a genre on my music because I strive to make each track different from the last. I feel like these days people get caught up on one sound and not hating it works for them, but for me I feel like if every one of my songs or mixes sound alike where is the progression in that. This is why I am always getting inspiration from everything from classical to jazz to live sounds I hear when I am out and about. That is why when people ask what genre my music is I tell them its callitwhatyouwant or geechie beats.I have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with many amazing artists such as DJ Vadim, Dailon, Nasty Nasty, Mimosa, Epcot, Eprom, NicoLuminous, Archnemesis, The Polish Ambassdor aka Ample Mammal, Kap 10 Harriss, Dirty Dannis, Elliot Lipp, Bitch Please, EP3, ,AV8TR, Pericles, Landsquid, t8tr(tot), KIdSML, ,Dr. Fameus, Mindelixir, Sumilan, the Agobi Project, Medisin, DJ Bowie, Selector Cleofus, Devanwho, Jables, Bookworm, Arpetrio, Truly Grimy, This is Art, Brownee, Booty Sweat, White Noise Willis, Noise Org, the Malah, Intermixture, Samples of Fresh2Death,Dailon, Sleepyhead, Archnemesis, Digital Rapport, Green Street, and many more. Big ups to everyone doing their thing!!! I have done official Disco Biscuits, Pretty Light and Pnuma Trio (back in the day) after parties. I have performed at Boombutywah Music and Arts Festival, And Impulse 2012 and 2013. I produce that glitch bitch dirty south geechie beats mixed with a little dub step bass downtempo (aka screw music) ghettotech.
