Bio
Born Josh Crews on November 29, 1983 in Portsmouth, Virginia (with a DJ for a father), Paradox aka J.Crews grew up from humble beginnings in Raleigh/Louisburg, North Carolina. Paradox, as defined by Webster, is something that is true and false at the same time. (ie Paradox is street! That can be false if you ask me but true if you ask my family/friends). However, Paradox adopted the acronym Persevering Against Raging Agony During Optimistic Times(x). Dox is a unique contrast to the music that is dominating the airwaves with his ability to put hidden jewels in his commercial records and creating vivid concepts while still being able to make relate-able music! His music is the blending of today's sound with an innate gift of storytelling, much like the golden era. His unique style is embedded with real-life messages and undeniable depth. Paradox is a street poet and a song writer as well! His record entitled Palm Trees in Heaven (written, entirely, by Paradox) is getting major attention from major record execs & is available on all of the online retailers. The song features grammy award winning 9th Wonder & Jamla Records' artist Heather Victioria and is produced by J.Manifest & his Legion of Muzik production team who also produced Drug Dealers Dream for Rick Ross! It is a smooth melodic hustler's anthem, and the video is available on his VEVO channel (ParadoxMusicVevo).
Paradox's timeless & artistic attributes have led to Paradox being a 2010/2011 Best Southern rapper nominee in New York’s Underground Music Awards (Jesse Atkinson), 2010 Carolina Music awards nominee, 2010 South Carolina SMES awards nominee, 2010/2011/2012 Queen City Awards nominee ,and 2011/2012 NC Underground Music Award nominee. Paradox is currently featured on mixtapes alongside 50 CENT, KANYE WEST, JAY-Z, JADAKISS, J.COLE, GUCCI MANE, LUDACRIS, BEYONCE, J.COLE, and many more. Paradox dropped his first nationally distributed album in 2012/2013 entitled “DESTINED 4 GR8NESS” (#D4G) with production from Legendary producer Ski Beatz (Jay-Z “Reasonable Doubt” credits), Super Producer J.Manifest (Rick Ross, Beanie Sigel, Rocko, Shy Glizzy, Project Pat" credits), Black Jeruz (50 Cent “Get Rich Or Die Trying” credits), Gav Beats, DrumLord, Mike Blayz, Cdub, and many more…
Paradox had a rough upbringing, which blessed him with a positive outlook on life and birth the acronym for his stage name. His ability to paint mirrors for people through his music allows his listeners to visually reflect on the issues of today. Paradox street single, “ON THE MOVE” from the Destined 4 Gr8ness album, was featured on a COAST 2 COAST mixtape hosted by J.cole (JAY-Z’s ROC-NATION ARTIST) and his joint ladies single “TOO EASY” played on K97.5 (www.hiphopnc.com) as the most requested song during #919radio campaign (@K975 @HipHopNC & @919radio) and both singles are currently available on ParadoxTracks.Bandcamp.com. Paradox's acclaim throughout the Southeast Region has given him the opportunity to perform at various charity and stop the violence events. Last but not least, his record “Hitler” caused a lot of controversy for online retailers as Paradox put a twist on the notorious Nazi leader’s transgressions, as he sent a message to urban america to stop the violence because they are no better than Hitler if they continue killing off their race for street fame…
Paradox has a distinctive stage presence that captivates the crowd. His music is live, fresh, and energetic enough to fit in the music market of today while still keeping a fresh distinction from other artists’ styles! The balance of his work is sure to satisfy any fan that enjoys music from the roughest hood to the riches suburban community. All in all, Paradox will be a household name in years to come because artistry will never die in the world of music!
