""A-Game Single Premiere"

The Indiana band return with an infectious new ALT-Rock Track.
Indiana post-hardcore band Oceans Over Airplanes are set to release their new EP Young Nights on 27 November, but as a good little teaser you can hear the lively new track “A-Game” below.

“The premise behind ‘A-Game’ was to create and set the scene for a singles night on the town,” the band says. “Going out with your friends with no other intentions. However the moment occurs when two people lock eyes for the first time. Two strangers who encounter that initial and undeniable attraction. Both people knowing that it is probably the wrong time, that they don’t want a relationship, that this is not what they intended to be looking for, however it is happening and the attraction is too much for either person to not explore. There is that feeling that it only gets complicated from here, that most likely it will never be better than tonight. However both decide to continue because the feeling is real, pure and honest. They lose all sense of time and inhibitions and are truly lost in the moment.” - Pop Matters

"Oceans Over Airplanes making waves on the music scene"

Oceans Over Airplanes’ name reflects a topsy-turvy world where up is down, down is up, and where rock ‘n’ roll dreams can still come true for those who are determined.

Determination was something band members – bassist/vocalist Tony Pagorek, 32, drummer Joseph Bickham, 28, and guitarist Joseph Muzyka, 25 – learned much about over the last two years. This particular Northwest Indiana trio forged a musical alliance about 16 months ago after other musicians surfed through membership in Oceans, creating some waves that have since been calmed.

It was during that time two previous albums - 2010’s “Oceans Over Airplanes” and 2011’s “Rip The Sky from the Earth” – were self-released. Their new 5-song EP, “Revival Songs,” is the group’s first output for Chicago-based Stayposi Records.

Last month “Revival Songs” became available via most online music sites (iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, etc.) with a short run of physical CDs, each copy hand-painted by the band’s members to make each unique and special for fans.

“The original band started 4 years ago,” said Crown Point’s Pagorek, who reluctantly switched from rhythm guitar to bass guitar after the group’s first bassist quit the band. Unable to find a suitable replacement after over a year of searching, Pagorek traded his six strings for four to give the group its groove back before too much time lapsed.

Pagorek had previously enjoyed regional success as guitarist/vocalist/songwriter of Farewell to February.

He later founded and now sings lead for Oceans Over Airplanes while collaborating with Crown Point’s Muzyka and Demotte’s Bickham on songwriting. “We are primarily an all original project, but we do put one or two covers into each live set that we really enjoy playing,” he said.

“The three of us came together through evolution,” Pagorek said. “As the band grew, I sought out people that I wanted. I had seen these guys (Muzyka and Bickham) around and loved their playing.” Invitations were extended and the current incarnation of Oceans Over Airplanes began a journey that over the last several months included writing, recording and tweaking songs at Hey Charlie Studios.

Those songs proved strong enough to grab attention from indie label Stayopsi Records whose artist roster includes Chicago’s Lights Over Bridgeport and Milwaukee’s Avenues, among others.

After that year on hiatus searching for a bass player they never found, Oceans Over Airplanes nearly called it quits. “We still got together as friends during that year but weren’t playing music,” said Pagorek. “That’s why we chose ‘Revival Songs’ as the EP’s title. It reflects the recreating of the band, the recreating of the music and the theme running throughout the songs that ‘Sometimes people have to be pushed to the brink of losing what is important to them in order to save it’.”

With their band moving ahead and a new batch of music to promote, Pagorek said Oceans Over Airplanes is now determined to help kick-start a “community” music scene” in Northwest Indiana much like other areas have done.

“When you look at many of the bands who make it on some level it’s because they were part of a community that created a scene for people to get excited about; a scene that supports many types of artists and music styles,” he said. “We want to create that kind of community here and help put (Northwest Indiana) on the map." - NWI TImes

"It's the Most wonderful Time of the Year"

No not Christmas! And yes technically its still winter, but in the world of music it’s time to start preparing for Summer Tours, New Albums, and PRESS, PRESS, PRESS!!!! My inbox has been exploding with releases, mp3’s and requests for interviews. Lucky me I get to sift through them all and bring you the best of the bunch. My first offering to you is Oceans Over Airplanes.

Oceans Over Airplanes started out as the “mistress” for Anthony Pagorek, and Theodore Ostrowski. They started the project while playing in other bands. After finding Russell Gasper, and Joseph Muzyka the boys made OOA their main focus. It’s a good thing too because Oceans Over Airplanes is like coming up for air after being water boarded.

In learning about this band it’s very clear that the guys want you to know they LOVE what they do. They’re proud of what they do, and they should be. Lots of bands try to be different and fresh, and lots of bands love the music they make. OOA actually is different and fresh and not only do they love the music…crowds love the music too. “Due to their energetic, intense, and crowd involving live shows” OOA is quickly becoming one of the Mid West’s favorite bands.

Hailing from Crown Point, Indiana OOA is currently working hard promoting their first self-titled EP (which was produced, engineered, and recorded by the band). When they’re not touring they’re hard at work in the studio putting down tracks for their scheduled full-length album, due out the summer of 2010.

With a couple songs on Itunes and their Myspace page there’s no reason not to check them out. The music is slightly “emo” with high note riffs and uncomplicated drumbeats, but Pagorek’s vocals are all rock. With a nice vocal range and a gravely guttural delivery just to punctuate certain words it’s an absolute pleasure to listen to this up and coming band.

When I first heard that this is a new band, and a young band, I was a little nervous to listen. Most bands I hear are trying to be “cutting edge” which means the drums do one thing, the guitar does something else and the vocals don’t belong anywhere on the track. Luckily OOA doesn’t try to be “cutting edge” they just are. Even with the music being a slightly different genre than the vocals OOA pulls it off, somehow making sense of it. Almost like David Lynch created them. - The Examiner

"10 BANDS PERFORMING AT LAUNCH 2016 THAT ARE ABOUT TO BLOW UP"

Oceans Over Airplanes describe themselves as a “Heartfelt Midwest Rock” band. With a sound that is heavily influenced by traditional rock music, and infused with more contemporary sounds, the Illinois band have a mature sound, despite them being together for a few years. With their punchy melodies and snarky stories that beg listeners to keep listening, this band are destined for something great. Bio

“The art of conversation has been taken for granted.  Chemistry between people is quickly being squandered through lives lived through screens.”

It is with that inspiration that Oceans Over Airplanes returns with the creation of their 3rd EP “YOUNG NIGHTS”  released in November of 2015.  YOUNG NIGHTS continues to possess the signature Indie/Alternative Rock sound of OOA.  A textured sound that is a direct reflection of their Indiana home, which contains the beauty of the lakeshore, combined with the pounding, gritty pulse of industry, the excitement of the city and the honesty of a small town.

“The idea of the EP initially was to revisit my early 20’s…To find and recreate musically many of the feelings that were present in those years.   As I began to uncover these old feelings, I realized how much harder it is to recreate feelings of waiting and anticipation with people today in light of the immediate abilities of technology.  We live through screens, not in the moment which I think causes a big disconnect between people.  My hopes are that we have a created a set of songs that people can use to help recall these moments in their lives where personal interactions with people mattered, that without these moments your life would be forever changed.”  OOA recreates these moments of youth in Songs like “Ampersand” and “A-Game” about the anticipation of new love.  While in the song Silo, OOA speaks on late night drives and recreates the naïve invincibility of youth.

YOUNG NIGHTS is a departure in many ways from their previous EP released on Stayposi Records in 2013 titled “Revival Songs”.  With the creation of Revival Songs it was the first time that OOA mainstays Anthony Pagorek, Joseph Muzyka & Joseph Bickham had to create music as a three piece.  The EP is characterized by an aggressively fiery and abrasive tone.  Indicative of the title,” Revival Songs”, marked the rejuvenation of the group. “Between the departure of our bassist coupled with strained personal relationships the band began to stall out.  It wasn’t until not playing music for close to 16 months that that the remaining members realized that what they had was more than a band, but a family.  The most important part of this period for the band is that we found out that we could be friends outside of music.”

The recent addition of rhythm guitarist, Jeff Popka, enables the band to recreate every aspect of the Young Nights EP as well as re-introduce material from the bands only full length “Rip the Sky from the Earth” (2011).   “Rip the Sky…was truly an exhausting and rewarding experience that helped me cope with the loss of our good friend and former band member Bret Smolinski.  Each song was directly inspired by his life and his passing.   It was an experienced that really pushed me lyrically and in many ways tore down the walls creatively that I had constructed around my writing for years. “

While OOA’s writing methods have evolved since their inception, there are still vestiges of their first Self-Titled EP glaringly present in current offerings.  Upon setting out to write songs for Young Nights, OOA revised their writing methods and adopted an alternative approach to crafting songs.  “We identified certain feelings we wanted the songs to evoke.  We made a concerted effort to connect with a broader audience on a nostalgic level.”

The band continues to refine and develop their brand of music that they credit with being a direct reflection of their closest relationships and surrounding environment.  Like all the previous releases, the band created and produced these new songs in their home studio, Hey Charlie Studios.  With this collection of songs, OOA hopes to inspire nostalgic reflection.  “When you’re young and you’re living through new experiences, you don’t always take the time to truly appreciate the moment while it is happening.  Not only did we want to remind people that those moments once happened but also that similar feelings are still accessible.”
