“As their set finished and the lights came up, the excitement in the air intensified. Chicago based band New Age Americans opened the show, playing original songs such as “Hangnail” and “Young Adolescent” as well as their rendition of The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside.” Frontman Tyler Hodgett, a student at the University, asked the fans if they were ready to see the trio to which they answered with deafening cheers and claps.” - Daily Illini
Lovelytheband’s show opened with New Age Americans, a Chicago-based alternative band comprised of Tyler Hogett (lead vocals and guitar), Jake Smith (backup vocals and bass), Kieran Shoaf (drums) and Liam Poe (rhythm guitar). At a first glance, NAA looks like its members are about to pound some Baja Blasts after the show is over.
They’re Catfish and the Bottlemen and Sigma Chi’s lovechild. They’re John Lennon glasses, sweatbands, unbuttoned Hawaiian shirts and leather jackets. Smith still has photos of himself in a muscle tank, holding up a fish he caught deep on his Instagram. The band flips their hair almost violently. They’re goofy and sincere. It makes them loveable.
NAA has a singular album, “No News Is Good News (2017),” along with a few singles. Two or three of which are definitely radio-worthy, including a vibrant “Thank You,” and the deliciously composed “Young Adolescent,” which was released on December 1. New Age Americans’ chords are heavy and impressive. The percussion is resonant. As for vocals, Hogett has this breathy, Brandon Flowers-thing going for him. It’s an appropriate opener. - Read Buzz

As the band continues to mature and flourish they bring new, complex writing styles into play. Their highly anticipated single Young Adolescent (2018) describes their personal journey into adulthood with no holds barred.
For the New Age Americans it's all about the music. Some might say music is a way to escape reality, but they see their music as reality. The writing process is a way to see past the struggles of everyday life and get in touch with their soul while simultaneously touching the hearts of listeners.
