What happens when you stop trying to be perfect? NamedTobias. found his life got a lot less stressful. Today the Toronto artist premieres his video for “Ain’t Perfect” with Charlene Nash.

“Ain’t Perfect” was produced by Wontel as the second track off The Blessing in Short. It’s a realization of imperfection and commitment to asking for help. When he accepted his faith and surrendered to god. NamedTobias. was able to let a lot of things go.

NamedTobias. is a spiritual rapper and his music always circles back to god, faith, forgiveness and prayer. He’s not necessarily a Christian rapper but he preaches belief in a higher power. With an EP releasing on September 29th titled The Blessing In Short, “NamedTobias.” decides to release Blood Work (Revised). Rather than a great quantity of music which isn’t really heard these days, “NamedTobias.” opts for quality in small doses knowing that a truth such as his own may be difficult to receive in a large amount. Vancouver-based Somethin' Like That just released his debut project Speech Rich Vol. 1 and today drops off the first visual in support of the project which we are premiering here on Complex. The single was produced by S.L.M.N. and features fellow artists NamedTobias. and Matt Storm.

Somethin' Like That originally hails from Hamilton, Ontario where he first discovered his love for freestyle rapping. After relocating to Vancouver, he continued on with perfecting his craft and drawing inspiration from both of his homes by marrying East Coast flavour with a West Coast warmth.

The track is titled "Speech Rich" after the EP series and explores feelings of being on edge, and of battling with one's own inner conflicts while still trying to stay on the bright side of the struggle. "Dark invites but light is life," NamedTobias. muses. The video was shot by Canadian cinematographer and filmmaker KB Kutz, and sees the artists trekking around some of Vancouver's most distinct areas including Stanley Park and the Gastown district.

We've all experienced self-doubt when it comes to the pursuit of goals, whether they are creative, personal or professional. The music industry is notorious for the grind and determination it requires to achieve success, and NamedTobias. has made an anthem for those moments with his latest offering, "The Risk."

"This song was produced by myself during a time where I was on my own in a new city (Vancouver) and environment," shares NamedTobias. of the song's inception. "I felt the need to create something that would give myself motivation to keep going." He also shares that the song was actually recorded on a different beat but when he felt the beat didn't really fit the vibe of the story, he decided to create something else to better match the lyrics.

The track also features Vancouver's Tyler Skyy on the second verse sharing his own thoughts on how important "The Risk" is. "He's one of the people I was able to get a great amount of work done with while I was in Vancouver for two years," says NamedTobias. of his friend and collaborator. "This record speaks on the faith needed to go after anything you want in life, but more importantly, we are both speaking from a place of music and the grind and risks that come with it."

NamedTobias. will be releasing his debut project, currently titled The Fall Forward, later this year with plans to release a few more singles and videos that are separate to the project until then. Check out "The Risk" video above as well as on Spotify or iTunes. - Complex
