Bio
Moist Caps is the ear-child of two moons in orbit around a sonic flower garden. Awkward Shaman sings and raps space-gazing reflections on everything from love, food, and camping to death, politics, and the cosmos over Yogamuffin's kaleidoscopic production and poetic verse.
The energy and diversity of Richmond, Virginia, the town where the two first met, is prominent in their works. You can hear the puzzling duality of the small but bustling city's lazy traffic, the birds, water, and vines from the jungle of a river that lies walking distance from the heart of downtown, and the low-key saturation of a place with more head shops than clothing stores.
The duo's latest project, Moon Faces, is designed to lift the listener out of the routines and economics of societal life and lead them to a space where they can comfortably wander along the journey towards self discovery we are endlessly creating and re-creating for ourselves.
Their performances are an ever-changing, always unique, circus of sounds that entrances the listener and tries to help them dance off whatever has been weighing them down. They have included arrangements as large as two drummers, two keyboardists, a guitarist, two samplers, and a three-piece choir. Yogamuffin often paints improvisationally on-stage, and the results become thank you gifts for the once-audience and now-family members. Awkward shaman is a vibrant persona who can be regularly sighted in a unicorn onesie with a bubble-gun jet pack. To strengthen the relationship of those in the room, Moist Caps shows also heavily encourage audience participation, including a table of art supplies and percussion instruments open to be used by anyone present that feels the calling to co-create.
