Mimi Gilbert:
Californian born, globe-trotter Mimi Gilbert was the ultimate way to kick off the evening with a voice channeling the likes of Fiest with just a dash of Sarah Blasko. Creating layer upon layer of a raw, prevailing sound that simply burst with life, journey and experience… all the while sparking some crowd participation with a little sing-along to "Hey Kid", where the crowd took part in giving their best interpretations of snake hissing and raindrops. Mimi Gilbert is indeed a name to keep an eye and an ear on. -

Bio
Born and raised in California, Mimi Gilbert discovered her love for performing on the streets of American cities as a teenager. Channeling the likes of Fiest with just a dash of Sarah Blasko, she has since has found herself supporting the likes of Lissie, The White Buffalo, Nadia Reid, Elkke, Shane Alexander, Chris Pierce. Living in Australia and New Zealand since 2011, she continues to make music around the world, playing in venues of all kinds, street and stage alike. Creating layer upon layer of a raw, prevailing sound that simply burst with life, journey and experience, Mimi feels most herself when behind any instrument at all, sharing the understanding that comes from music. She has been working on her debut album Strangers Won’t Exist in New Zealand, looking forward to an early 2016 release.
