Bio
Mexico City Is Sinking is the solo work of singer-songwriter Marco Jaimez. Marco has paved the way to a strong foundation with his distinctive voice and emotional lyrics. He has full command of the craft of songwriting and his live performances showcase an ability to connect with his audience.
Born and raised in Racine, Wisconsin, Marco started playing bass guitar at age thirteen. After discovering a love for singing, he put the bass down and delved into playing acoustic guitar, singing and songwriting. It is here that he found a desire and passion to continue his craft and began his solo journey. He explains; “I have always loved music and believe that humans were given this desire to create. My creativity happens to be singing and songwriting.”
Mexico City Is Sinking’s debut album Michi Gami is a collection of songs that were written as a way for people to feel what the artist is saying. For Marco Jaimez, Mexico City is Sinking is a creative outlet. Marco explains, “I’m not writing for anyone. Sometimes I write when I’m angry to release it. The anger stays in the song and I move on." A lot of that lyrical expression is found in songs like “Come Along Afterthought”, “3138 Coolidge Ave.”, and “I Found Your Eyes in the Playground Sand”.
Marco is also the lead singer of alternative rock band Anchors of Empires. His vocals are featured in the band's EP Hollow Cities. In addition, Marco has collaborated with singer-songwriter Hayden Skaggs under the name We & I.
Mexico City Is Sinking released a new EP June 9, 2015. The EP, called The Queen of Monster Island, consists of 4 new songs and a re-recording of "Come Along Afterthought" from Michi Gami. A single from that EP, called "Sundowning", was released April 11, 2015.
