Country singer-songwriter Matt Jordan seeks a family man’s redemption in the powerful new track “Outskirts of Grace,” premiering exclusively on Sounds Like Nashville today.
Arriving officially tomorrow (February 28) and co-written with Jordan by Charlie Berry and Ryan Hedge, the track puts Jordan’s commanding sandpaper vocal at the pulpit and backs it with a soul-stirring blast of gospel rock, adding up to a transformative anthem which Jordan says comes from real-life gratitude.
“‘Outskirts’ is one of the more personal songs I’ve ever been a part of,” he tells SLN. “When Charlie, Ryan and I got together to write, we spent the first two hours just talking about faith, family, wives, dreams — all that kind of stuff. At some point during our conversation, I threw out the first few lines — ‘Too many fights left unfinished / Too many sorries never said / A lot of prayers fell short of heaven / ‘Cause they got stuck up in my head.’ And we just started building on that.
“After a few more hours of discussion Charlie put his head down and got quiet for a while, and then just started singing the chorus. So it came together pretty organically, just three young married guys trying to figure out how to navigate family and dreams and what it all means in the bigger picture of life. For me personally, it means something a little different every time I sing it.”
The track was produced by Grammy-award winner Sal Oliveri, who has previously pulled heavenly performances from stars like P!nk, Chris Stapleton and Sheryl Crow. And according to him, listeners can see right into Jordan’s heart with “Outskirts of Grace.”
“I’ve been producing Matt for several years and I knew from the start that he was a rare talent,” Oliveri says. “His songwriting caught me right away as he writes with an insight and depth beyond his years. Matt knows his voice and the characters in his songs which makes for the kind of singer-songwriter you want to follow. I know I do.”

Three years after the release of singles “Chicago” and “Take the Lead”, Missouri-based singer/songwriter Matt Jordan is further developing his heartland-country-rock sound in his new single “Never Look Back”. Evocative of the archetypical music of Springsteen and Mellencamp that so many of us revere, Jordan’s lyrics capture that reckless post-heartbreak feeling with pinpoint accuracy. - Raised Rowdy

Bio
"I'm not much of a talker, but I've got an awful lot to say," Matt Jordan says laughing when asked to describe his music. "Since I started, writing songs has been the way that I've told the parts of my story that I don't otherwise talk about."
"I hear the skyline lights are awful pretty // But I can't find the good in nothing since I let you go," Jordan sings on his 2016 single, 'Chicago.' It's no wonder the Missouri native has garnered the attention of American Songwriter, The Boot and The Shotgun Seat. Influenced by the American classics, his music is reminiscent of the music he grew up on, with a hint of Springsteen's restlessness and Petty's recklessness.
After taking a few years away from the stage and the studio to start a family, Jordan is ready to dive back in. "Having kids changes everything," he says. "and having some time off, I was able to go back to the drawing board. We got a new band, recorded some new tunes, polished up some old ones and are writing like never before."
His new single, 'Never Look Back,' released in September, is the first of many. "It's the perfect song to release first," says Jordan. "It sets the tone for the rest of the singles we have lined up and the title is fitting. This is a new chapter. We're starting this thing over, hitting it hard and never looking back. We're ready to go."
