"So why don’t you go ahead and introduce yourself?
Mason Caine aka Mdot The Magnificent aka Methamphetamine, 1/4 of the group P.H.A.N 4…
What are your music influences?
David Ruffin, Michael Jackson, all soul R&B artists really. Rap; Laws, Royce da 5’9, Saigon, MF Doom. Electro Pop, & retro 80’s music.
What’s the story behind your stage name?
I used to go by the rap name Lionheart. A producer in florida told me I should change my name. He said I should have a first and a last name. I used to work as a stone mason, so I figured the name Mason would remind me of that hard work. The name Caine came easier because it was a tribute to my cousin Terrence who pretty much taught me how to rap. Plus, his son’s middle name is Caine, so I just stuck em together.. I used to hate how it sounded (Mason Caine) so I went by M.Caine in the beginning.
Heart of the City 2 – The Heartbreak Kid. Can you describe the recording and writing process?
Honestly, drugs, heartbreak, and missing my children helped to develop my writing process. I finally realized that I found my sound and who I wanted to be as an artist….but really just trying to knock it out the park with every record… I would just let the records come to me…we went through like 30 plus songs….it took like almost 2 yrs for this to come to fruition.
How did you come up with the title?
The Heart Of The City title came from different events of my life. I was in a group called Juice City (we were pretty well known in Pasco County) and when we broke up, I felt everyone blamed me, so I wanted to remind everyone that I’m the heart of this city not to mention the most famous rapper out of Pasco (like that’s anything. lol). Also a few years ago, my father died of a heart attack the day after my birthday…and DJ Ritz had heart surgery the same year, so it only made sense to work with him.
What’s like to work with DJ Ritz?
Silent (lol, naw I’m very random and I don’t talk much ….I’m kind of a recluse….so is he). He’s a super awesome dude, very humble and talented. I’ve been a fan of Ritz and the whole Shut-It-Down Squad even before seeing them on Rap City (The BET show)…They are fam ….b…. And a super plus to have him hosting my tape.
Where did you get the inspiration for the lyrics?
Drugs (true story), looking for love in the wrong & right places, failed experiments, my stories, my hustling days, my past, present and future. Just life in general be it social aspects or just comic book bubbles thought out-loud. And of course my team, LA (The Craftzman), feb (Feb9), jace (Big Bodega, my manager), b (BKraze), Racebannon, and Laws.
Are you hitting the road soon?
I HOPE to be! Just making sure my project is finished and represented in the best light, so I have product (merchandize). Me on the stage just equals money….
What’s happening next in Mason Caine’s world?
Honestly, trying to patch up my personal life as well as DESTROY every single doubter that thinks I’m willing settle for less when it comes to rap music. I desperately want to show my genius beyond rapping, songwriting, making music, etc. I truly feel I was made for the art form known as HIP HOP…

Born in Atlanta, raised in the midwest and now calling New Port Richey home, rapper Mason Caine is part of the crew known as Juice City, a foursome of up-and-coming Pasco rappers who've been making some solid noise north of the Pasco-Pinellas line.
He's got a fan and partner in Laws, the Spring Hill rapper who's earned acclaim from XXL and URB. And he's happy to spread the love to others in his Juice City crew. On his excellent, funky jam Death of Swag, he gives them a shout out: "And then I let the four blast / my team's the black Beatles / who's your cast?" - Tampa Bay Times

Bio
In an industry where who you know and where you're from could mean more than what you can do, it takes more than an average rapper to transform from a small town kid with a dream into a success story. Although Richard Ward II, better known to his fans as Mason Caine, is an Atlanta native raised in the urban cities of Chicago and Cincinnati. His reputation as an MC gained the most notoriety while residing in the little-known town of Hudson, Florida. Mason Caine has proven to be that rare breed of artist whose fast-growing success is owed not to his surroundings, but to his own "masonry," as his name implies, and honing of his craft. The Florida hip hop scene was new to Caine, an artist used to an underground climate and a battling atmosphere. However, Caine’s Midwest consciousness and intellect was soon matched with a more colorful wordplay and southern gangsta style, making him as versatile as his background. His reputation as the uncontested battle rapper to beat spread quickly and reached the ears of the then up and coming rapper, Laws (currently signed to Warner Bros. and J.U.S.T.I.C.E League. As the two best lyricists in the Tampa bay area, the two moved past their initial rivalry and joined forces with producers The Craftzman, and Feb9, to form the group P.H.A.N. 4. Mason began performing at local venues such as Orpheum, Empire, the 2008 Tampa Music Conference and sharing the stage with musical legend KRS-One, Caine became a staple in Central Florida hip hop.
In a city full of egos, Mason Caine has successfully gained the respect of his competitors as a lyrical force gaining unstoppable momentum. To date, Mason Caine has released numerous independent projects, such as "I Am Number 4" with several features from Laws, "The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Anthem" on WILD 94.1 FM, "Heart Of The City" and "Heart of The City 2 - The Heartbreak Kid" (with Tampa’s 88.5 FM DJ Ritz). Mason has currently released the single “Motivation Musick” via soundcloud and plans to release additional music along with music videos. As his musical progression continues and with the backing of some the industry's "heavyweights", these successful ventures provided the opportunity for Mason to perform at the A3C and SXSW music festivals. Mason describes his performance style “You can expect high-energy, lyricism, and heavy
crowd participation at my shows…me on the stage just equals money. I live and
die on this stage!” Mason Caine is laying the foundation to be one of the next major contenders in hip hop.
