A robust chat with the band Mari Lwyd. Who are they? Four friends, veterans of varying musical backgrounds and different areas of creativity making sounds throughout the Lehigh Valley and beyond. A true all-included songwriting process fuels their creative collaborations.
Their stylings range from 60s doo wop to indie country, Tom Waits vibes, straight rock, and more. "We love to collaborate and each of us bring a different style that comes together into a pretty unique sound. Bio
Mari Lwyd is a band hailing from Pennsylvania's Lehigh valley consisting of four friends making music for the sake of making music and fulfilling a creative need. Chris Zaccone (Drums/Vocals) first played with Scott Dedecker (Keys/Guitar) when jamming with a mutual friend, during the jam session Mike Cooper (Guitar/Vocals) messaged Chris responding to an ad looking to start a band.
In no time at all they hit it off realizing they were very similar people who shared a common need to be creative; and they started creating music right away. A friend recommended Ian Posh (Bass/Vocals) as a possible bass player, and after playing one song together it was clear that he could not have been a better fit for the group between his personality, bass playing, and voice.
With the rhythm section complete, Mari Lwyd was born. All four members come from eclectic musical backgrounds, scenes and influences, pulling in ideas from all of them into a truly collaborative songwriting process with a strong DIY attitude. Writing songs that have been categorized as indie rock, containing elements of punk, twangy country, neo-soul, doo-wop, new wave and folk, the band motto is there are no bad ideas.
In 2023 Mari Lwyd recorded songs for their first EP, Snake Church, releasing it in August
