Our Music:
Man Down began nearly ten years ago as a simple bar-room ensemble paying tribute to their favorite laid-back influences--like Jack Johnson, Sublime, and Van Morrison--with original tunes and select covers. As of late, the group has blossomed into a ten-piece powerhouse, packing horn-infused energy with their unique blend of rock, reggae, soul, R&B; and hip-hop.
Our Members:
The band originally formed as a trio of high school friends--Rick Starkey (guitar, vocals) Brad Starkey (guitar), and Vinnie Garufi (guitar, vocals)--who mixed simple acoustic melodies with saltwater vibes in the beachfront atmosphere of their St Augustine, FL home. Years later, after relocating to their home state of MD, the band landed their first Mid-Atlantic gig and needed some rhythm to fill out their sound. They invited seasoned musicians Jeff Malcom (drums) and Skye-Sadowski Malcom (violin, vocals) to sit in at the renowned Ramshead Tavern in Annapolis. From that night on, Man Down's musical sail was firmly hoisted and the group could be found rocking regular gigs around the harbors of Annapolis and Baltimore.
The addition of seasoned musical talent became a theme over the next five years. With a regular gig at Mick O'Shea's Irish Pub, just a block from Johns Hopkins' Peabody Music School, Man Down drew the ear of some of Baltimore's best talent. The band would soon recruit a full horn section--Tom Jones (sax), Brent Flinchbaugh (trumpet) and Zach Herchen (sax)--as well as sound engineer turned crooner, Ed Tetreault (keys, vocals). The final addition came when Jeff moved to bass and longtime friend Matt McCann (drums) hopped on board. Now their membership is solidified and their rudder is firmly in place.
Our Mission:
Man Down seeks to spread fun and good times through their engaging sound, which fills the stage and empties the glasses of many happy patrons.
