When is the last time you heard new rock and roll? Think really hard. Before you fly off the handle, strike from your list: alt, indie, punk, metal, trance fusion, gothabilly, zheul and all other assorted variations. We are talking salt of the earth, Dazed and Confused-esque, guitar smashing, TV defenestrating rock and roll – the kind of music that makes you think of your mustached dad trying to figure out his life on the hood of a muscle car. It has truly been a long time since rock and roll.

Over the last decade, EDMania has created a musical environment similar to that of the disco era. But just like the 70’s, a new generation of rock fans is awaiting a savior. Where is the next Bruce Springsteen or Tom Petty to bring life back to America’s most sacred export? If you’re awaiting the next chapter of rock, look no further. With a stunning combination of blistering guitars, soaring vocals, and drum fills that might actually give you IBS, Mammoth is exploding onto LA’s burgeoning rock scene.

Quite possibly one of the great guitarists of our generation, Kyle Marsh plays with the precision of a surgeon and power of a Silverback. He moved across the country to LA with hopes of creating a band that would bring back the golden age of rock. Kyle explains, “I just never had any interest in listening to newer music, I base my style from the founders of the classic rock sound. Van Halen, Page, Gilmour, these are my idols.” Kyle began his search for talent on Craigslist with an ad titled “Solid Rock Bassist Needed.” Lead singer and guitarist, Peter Clark, responded without hesitation (or any bass experience). Once Kyle heard his vocals on a demo track, he decided a new project was in order with Peter on lead vocals and rhythm guitar. While Peter claimed no prior lead vocal experience, he could yell and play chords with the best of them, which was good enough at the time. Enter Berkeley Music grad and seasoned vet, Dylan Hallacy. With a wealth of gut busting fills and industry experience, Dylan seemed the perfect fit to drive a booming rhythm section. After a revolving door of bassists on par with the Spinal Tap drummers scenario, Mammoth settled on Max Nickou. Nickou, a skilled vocalist and guitar player, brings an unparalleled level of dexterity on the bass along with a voice that could make Simon Cowell say, “I guess that was pretty good.” After a successful tour of local bars including the Victorian, Silver Lake Lounge, and Hermosa Saloon, Mammoth took a short break to work on original music.

Mammoth currently has their nose to the grindstone in hopes of a late fall EP release. The cross section of influences ranging from the Grateful Dead to Van Halen has created a unique sound that can only be described as Mammoth. In the words of Peter Clark, “Our sound seems so obvious but just flat out doesn’t exist right now.” This distinctive sound highlights the expert level of musicianship among all members. With face-melting guitar solos, high energy vocals, and a thundering rhythm section, the band is almost uncoverable. The EP will be available through MammothLA.com, Facebook, and all streaming mediums. A wealth of material is on deck for a full album release at some point in the near future…so stay tuned.

We are currently at an interesting crossroads in music history. Free music has created a new generation of music aficionados with unlimited exposure to not only new music, but to the greats of the past as well. Mammoth is a breath of fresh air for this generation and a healthy reminder for those who remember rock’s golden age. Once finished with their new release, Mammoth hopes to embark on a fall tour of Southern California and evangelize their message. Rock is back and here to stay!
