"Mamalama Y Andes Manta in Woodstock NY"

Arboles y Olas”.

Bio

A listening experience that has been described as "like walking into a dream," Mamalama seamlessly weaves together world music (Native American, Middle Eastern, Celtic), classical minimalism, early/sacred/renaissance, indie-chamber music, and vivid lyrical mysticism. Mamalama is an uncommon orchestration of harp and ethereal voice, cello, violin, hammered dulcimer, melodica, tenor recorder, glockenspiel, upright bass, piano, french horn, and choral voices.

"....a stunningly beautiful, intoxicating sound that may lull you to a place of peace, if only you allow it." (Chronogram Magazine).

Mamalama currently performs live in a variety of venues throughout the Northeast, including in theaters, sanctuaries/churches, music festivals, spiritual retreat centers, pow-wows and other world-cultural festivals, and in unusual venues such as performance spaces within earth caves, turn-of-the-century gardens, Art Church with artist Alex Gray, concerts alongside pristine waterfalls and on mountaintops, as well as in the subways and rail stations/mass transit systems of NYC through the MUNY performing arts program (Music under New York).

Mamalama has also composed music for dance, film, puppetry, theater, and recently had the song "Same Room Twice" used in the soundtrack for "Manhattan Romance", an independent film by Tom O'Brian.

"The relationships between all of the different elements in nature -- both the natural world and our own inner nature -- are very inspiring... along with dreams, meditation and prayer, the beauty of science, physics, world mythology, and a myriad of stories and experiences that come from our ancestors. With our music, everything comes together very organically. The pieces are unusually scored, with colorful paintings and descriptions of dynamics, modes, and vision/visual forms rather than long and linear sheets of dictated notes and rhythms. The music is as much about the individual player and their presence as it is about the notes and rhythms. What we offer to our audience is very much a true collaboration, and a living, breathing music. " says harpist, vocalist, and composer Elizabeth Clark-Jerez.

The music is orchestrated by the entire Mamalama ensemble, which is made up of many well known Hudson Valley ensemble performers including: Rusty Boris on upright bass; Eric Otner on violin/voice/french horn, (St. Marks Consort); Henry Lowengard on hammered dulcimer/tenor recorder/melodica/glockenspiel/voice; Cornelia Logan on cello/voice; and Annie Roland (of Barely Lace) on voice/tenor mandolin.
