The song is a slow jam with real smooth instrumentals. Magix King ensures that he is steady on the flow while rhyming like a pro. A motivational song with inspirational lyrics, I think it deserves an audience. Snow Bootz is a song telling the story of the struggle to success. Magix King certainly stands out from his competitors in the age of mumble rap, this artist has content.

He breaks the beat with opening lyrics like, “no matter wherever I go, am trapped in the same four walls.” The rapper starts in a rather slow and lazy rhythm but I am impressed with the tempo he kicks in the first verse with. The professional spitting on his flow is continuous, matching and the rhyming scheme is correct. The producer did a really good job with syncing the artist voice and the beat speed. He serves the beat with punchlines after punchlines; his mouth is a lyrical furnace. - HipHop Basement

Just like in all his songs, the rapper takes his time before pouncing on the beat. The trap instrumentals fall in place correctly as the beat drops. His energy on the hook is on another level with the intro line “Maybe we just need to f**k one more time, f**k around and start making up the way we make love look.” These are clever lyrics. You can already feel that the song is no ordinary RnB or Rap, but an extension of the artist, “Still laying on pillows that inked with your name, we not together and I'm who to blame, knowingly going insane, you feeling I'm toxic i cannot complain, My heart uses logic my brain can't explain and the paining is chronic, it’s quite inhumane.” This type of flow and lyric speaks volume about the artist and his writing capabilities.

Music is an art and expressing yourself clear is fundamental. Most artists cannot deliver such a well-written yet grungy in content piece but Magix King does it effortlessly. A love rap song with background vocals humming and dope catch phrases, you can tell the producer knows his way around the studio. “The feeling you feeling I know that you hate it, I'm stuck in your system there ain't no debating, you're the reason my world is rotating, you must be the one or I'm caught in the matrix, as I stand here contemplating,” with Magix there is bars after bars and his delivery is not an issue. The most interesting part though, is the rapper's raw and earthy voice really flowing with the abstract and artsy beat. This is a tune that you can easily love. It ought to be in your playlist. You never know, he can soon become your favourite rapper with so his blazing pickup lines! - Rap Bully

Magix King uses Hip-Hop and honest lyricism to preach peace and positivity which is something most artists tend to ignore. This shows that Magix is a spiritual character. I can say that this is an optimistic rapper bypassing the hate and taking the negativity as he transforms it into something good. “The people are out here dying to make a difference but first I need you to listen, just follow me on my mission promise I got the vision”, the hook is very steady “I think you deserve everything and you can achieve it by chasing your dreams” it is a jam that when you need motivation then this is for you. Magix delivers every line as it should be heard, when you hear “I know that I was born to move mountains, that’s weight you cannot haul” you know that the guy can do anything to reach where he is going. The song is not for the club heads, but for the woke people. It is a great hit for the grinders who are all about paper chasing. “First you find your wings and I promise we gon make fit”, the lyrics are fly and it is a track that is hard not to love…unless you are a hater. - NYC Grind

Another day, another dope artist coming out of Chicago. Seriously though, Chicago must have the highest concentration of skilled musicians per capita in the USA. It’s bonkers. So who’s in the spotlight today, you ask? Magix King and his video for “Hi There.”

Get a few seconds into “Hi There” and two things will become immediately apparent: Magix is a man of the people, and he loves his city. The entire video is essentially a montage dedicated to his come up in Chicago. He poses with friends, hugs passersby, and waves to little kids. This isn’t anything fancy, but it doesn’t, or rather, it shouldn’t have to be. “Hi There” paints an accurate picture of Magix and showcases him as a regular guy who is passionate about music and loves the fuck out of Chicago.

The highlights of the video come from the clips of Magix performing. And it’s not a highlight because he’s playing in front of some massive sold out crowd, it’s a highlight because he’s performing to maybe 15 people. The fact that he shows the crowd as is, and doesn’t try to make it look bigger or better using sneaky angles or photo techniques, says a lot about the guy. He understands where he’s at and has no problem being honest to his fan base. Also, he looks insanely happy performing for just a few folks, and that right there is awesome.

Magix is far from a household name (he only has 166 followers on SoundCloud as of this writing) but is still very much worth following closely. Judging by the amount of joy plastered on his face as he walks about town meeting people, you can bet your bottom dollar this is not the last we see of him. Be sure to keep an eye out for him as time goes on and if you see him around town, make sure you say “Hi There.” - EarMilk

The calendar has just turned to April, but Magix King is promising that “it’s gonna be a hell of a sick summer.” That’s how the hip-hop artist born Myron Ford Jr. on Chicago’s South Side kicks off his next project, “Sick Summer,” due to drop on May 28. Magix (he says the ‘x’ is pronounced like a ‘c’ both to protect his brand and it makes him easier to find on the Internet) has already released the first single. “Hi There” is a great entrée into his positive message, rapid-fire raps and heavily layered (but never too busy) production. Toward the end he inserts an aside that “I entertain and empower through the sounds of music,” before he raps that while “they sleep, we grind.” This message of the single was reflected in our conversation on a recent Saturday afternoon. He says he came by his passion for creating top-quality music honestly, from his family. His father first saw him perform live two or three years ago and since then has been “one-hundred percent behind him,” and he’s even joined him by helping out with sound engineering on the production side. He describes his mother as an “amazing vocalist who got it from her mother,” and says even his uncle is a DJ and a “very talented lyricist.” Magix says his Uncle Eric “put me on to a lot of dope MCs [including] KRS-One and Chicago artists like Juice and Common,” and when he was growing up his hip-hop education was “lyricist heavy,” including Big L, Big Pun and Rakim. He points to the early work of J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar as rappers that were “really going against the mainstream;” but today his love for his hometown translates to his music library, which he describes as all Chicago music, including Chance The Rapper, Saba and his ilk from Pivot Gang and everyone from Reflective Music, to name only a few. Although Magix King is still young, he wrote his first rhyme at the age of nine, so he’s been doing hip-hop for what amounts to many years, with his first official release as a solo artist being “Dream Catcher” in 2012, followed by “The Workout Session” in 2014. While he describes the former as an attempt to push the idea that he can create great songs, with way more production, instrumentation and structure within the song itself, he assesses the latter as an attempt to collect pieces that he’d been working on “that fit,” and that it was a way to let his listeners know that he is always working. “Now that I feel like the consistency side is being seen, and I feel like the fact that I can make a song is being seen, it’s time to establish the entertainment.” He refers to the refrain of “Hi There,” and says he’s focused on providing quality and demonstrating that “we can still make hip-hop music and dance and have a good time, and have the same freedom like the summertime… Just because we’re good artists and we make good positive music, never for an instant does that mean you can’t dance to what I’ve made. So that’s what I’m really focusing on for this project: let’s reestablish that freedom and happiness and people with this good positive music, so that every summer when somebody’s ready to get out of school, in my mind I hope they’re saying that it’s gonna be one hell of a sick summer.” In addition to radically different interpretations of his earlier songs, expect “Hi There” and the next two singles from “Sick Summer” to be performed when Magix King brings his newly assembled seven member backing group, “The Lifestyle” to Rogers Park on Friday, April 8 as part of the Flabby Hoffman Caravan with Darren’s Super Fun Party Comedy Show. The comedy starts at 8pm and the music runs from 9pm to 1am, with musician Craig Scott also scheduled to perform. The event is covered by CAN TV and available for viewing on channel 19 for all cable carriers throughout the city limits.
