"Both the “Major Tom” song and music video are perfect examples of the concept that art begets art – with Lizcano pulling inspiration from the work of her favorite artists and using her craft to extend the universe of their work, along with that of her own." - BigTakeover Magazine - Big Takeover Magazine
"As an immigrant, as a Latina, as a woman – there are a lot of assumptions folks make about my background, my identity, and my lived experiences. While all of these things make up who I am, at the end of the day, my experiences aren’t the tragic trope that we’re always seeing in the news and in the media about young, Latinx immigrants. I feel really tired of this story, and I think it’s unfair that young, Latinx folks have to perform a very specific idea of who we are. We get shoved into this tiny little box, without acknowledgement that we are whole, complex human beings, and each one of us unique. " - Laura Lizcano for Vents Magazine - Vents Magazine
Lizcano’s debut full-length project carries a simple, stunning beauty. Influenced by soul, folk, and jazz singers, like Norah Jones and Natalia Lafourcade, Heart is a lovely fusion of jazz instrumentation and personal, folksy lyricism. - WXPN
“Overwork and Underpaid” is a lyrically-driven composition that incorporates elements from Lizcano’s jazz background with prominent piano and saxophone, plus a flare of pop. Much of the vocals border spoken-word and singing, similar to Fiona Apple on her 2020 record Fetch The Bolt Cutters. This vocal delivery feels appropriate, as Lizcano tears apart the working machines our culture has turned people into, proclaiming her exhaustion and frustration with this system of living, “I don’t mean to complain but I’m spread too thin / I can’t keep living this way.” - Regina Schleip for WXPN - WXPN
The small town life isn’t for everybody. Colombian-born jazz singer Laura Lizcano spent her formative years in Lykens before moving to Philadelphia to pursue bigger things. She traveled back to the midstate recently to talk about her journey and sing a few tunes. Her singing career had pretty humble beginnings.... - WITF
