"REVIEW OF "HIT THE GROUND RUNNING""

LAURA LISBETH
LAURA LISBETH/Hit the Ground Running: From the heartland she came, a neo-folkie that knows how to follow the contemporary folk tradition and will probably go a long way toward making people forget about her sisters of the 90’s. With an easy and smart way around an original song, Lizbeth delivers the pensive without the maudlin and the whining. Already proven by her peers to be an up and comer with some award notice under her belt, the future of the singer/songwriter genre, no matter how the gene mutates, is in good hands.

"Laura Lisbeth at the Parkville Acoustic Festival"

"After a late start due to weather concerns Laura Lisbeth took the stage and presented a sweet and senitmental set of her original music. Only the diminuative Laura and her big dreadnaught guitar rendering beautiful lyrical passages in her very strong, yet uniquely delicate voice. Captivating enough to help draw the sun from out of hiding." - Parkville Acoustic Festival

Bio

Laura Lisbeth was born and raised on the plains of Kansas. She's a red-meat-lovin' country girl, transplanted to the city, who plays a big Martin guitar, owns about 15 pairs of boots (lord knows how many shoes), and still keeps her saddle even though she doesn't have a horse anymore.

Those days of country living may be far behind her, but they've definitely influenced her writing.  Laura says, When you grow up in Kansas, you learn the true meaning of the word honesty. The landscape and the sky are wide open, with nowhere to hide from the truth. Laura uses that clear, pure honesty in her songs, never backing down from the hard-learned truths of life. Known for their intelligence, honesty, and bravery the songs are a unique, fresh take on the world, the way she sees it. Her songs have won recognition from publications such as American Songwriter Magazine, regular airplay on Kansas Public Radios Trail Mix program, and the ultimate reward: respect from her fellow songwriters.

Possibly even more memorable than the lyrics in her songs are her stunning vocals, which draw people in from the far perimeters, holding them mesmerized. Her music and her sound have prompted comparisons to singer/songwriters such as Aimee Mann, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Jewell. But she has a sound that is all her own.

Laura released her first full-length CD entitled "Hit the Ground Running" in 2007. Recorded at Steve Phillips' Big Time Music Productions in Kansas City, it is a collection of folk/pop tunes with a sweet and simple overall sound that beautifully captures her arresting vocals.

In the Fall of 2011, Laura began work on her long-awaited second CD, titled "The Balance." Laura teamed up with producer Gary Beard for this project to create an album that would showcase her songwriting skills and take the production of her songs to the highest level. To achieve this, she traveled to Nashville to work with some of the most talented musicians available. "The Balance" was released in October, 2012.

She has been selected three years in a row to represent the Kansas City chapter of NSAI at the 2012, 2013, and 2014 Country Stampede, a national country music festival featuring major acts such as Zac Brown band, The Band Perry, and Toby Keith. In 2014 her song, "Middle of the Night" was selected as the winner of the Country Stampede Pick to Play Contest, and she had the opportunity to perform it on the main stage at the festival.

2013-14 is the time period in which Laura put together her band. With the addition of three extremely talented local musicians, she is able to breathe life into her songs and give the listener a full 360 experience.
