Kool Taj the GR8

Kool Taj the Gr8 is an American lyricist with 20 plus years of live performances, studio recordings, touring and a string of album releases and mixtapes. A Buffalo New York native, Kool Taj has attained recognition for his witty lyrical skill, as he is known to drop dope bars over dope beats. Although hip hop music has ventured out into different subtype genres such as Trap, Gangsta Rap, and Alternative Rap, Taj has remained loyal to the traditional sound of boom bap hip hop, providing his listeners with a nostalgia for the 90’s hip hop era.

In addition, the content of his music is savvy, edgy, and street oriented accompanied by social-political awareness, which in turn offers his listeners food for thought. In 2010, Kool Taj was signed to a Buffalo based hip hop record label called DTR45. While signed to the label, the Gr8 MC released two albums entitled Hip Hop in the Flesh (2010) and Fresher Than Yours (2011). Both projects are still available online. Due to the music industry’s bureaucratic gridlock, Taj went on a six year hiatus and has now returned as an independent artist and entity. Kool Taj has released a new mixtape entitled Behind Bars (2017), pushing the envelope for better lyrical content. It is beyond obvious that the 90’s MC embodies the culture of hip hop and represents it to the fullest extent. Kool Taj the Gr8 is not just a hip hop artist with evident authenticity as an MC, a noble writer and lyricist, but ultimately he’s considered hip hop, in the flesh.
