"Cartersville native Brown on track to achieve sizable music goals"

Kendricke Brown, who is known in the music industry as K-Major, wins the Tastemakers Got Talent Show Feb. 16. SPECIAL
At 18, Kendricke Brown is starting to make a name for himself in the music industry. While the Cartersville native is staying busy, juggling college with being a musician and running a record label, he also has his sights on more monumental goals.

"I want to be an entrepreneur in not only music," said Brown, who is known in the music industry as K-Major. "I want to do a lot of things in fashion, [become a] business owner and a major recording company owner. I also want to be affiliated with Live Nation and I want to have a roster of platinum-selling recording artists other than myself. ... I make small goals to reach, but also in the industry that I'm in it's really a one-day-at-a-time type thing. So you really have to have self-motivation and push yourself every day to continue to do what you need to do."

In February, Brown was a featured independent artist spotlight of the week on Slip-N-Slide Records' Web site, www.slipnslideworld.com, and the winner of the Tastemakers Got Talent Show. At the talent show in Tallahassee, Fla., 20 entrants performed one song and were judged on their music quality, crowd interaction and showmanship. The win enabled Brown to receive passes to the TJ's DJ's Tastemakers DJ/Music Conference Feb. 17, where he sang his hip hop/R&B single "My Song," which currently is playing on more than 350 Clear Channel radio stations across the nation.

"It was a statement for him as a person," said Kenny Brown, Kendricke's manager and older brother, about the talent award. "It was a statement for him as an artist, just basically embracing the true essence of music and to be recognized on a national scale for that is a very, very big accomplishment for him, especially coming from Cartersville, Ga.

"I know there is a lot of people that do music and that are musicians but don't really get outside of the box. So for him, it was an accomplishment stepping outside of the box, actually winning an unanimous first-place decision from all five judges."

Describing his brother as the all-around total package as an artist, he said some of K-Major's attributes include being a singer, rapper, producer and writer.

"He's a student of the art," said Kenny Brown, who serves as president of 3MG Entertainment, which he formed with his brother. "What that means is he's in school for music. He's been doing music since he was 9 years old. He taught himself how to play the keyboard and taught himself how to play a lot of the instruments which he plays now. He's also expanded and developed his art so he has his own unique melodies, his own unique patterns and it makes him stand out from a typical artist coming from Atlanta, coming from Cartersville, coming from Georgia."

Kendricke Brown's music career started when, at 15, he sold more than 3,000 copies of his first album, "Underage Restriction," in Cartersville. Afterward he signed a professional record contract with Black Shield in Atlanta, then joined his brother in forming 3MG Entertainment. Along with him, the label also represents Sy Yung and Santrella.

By early summer, 3MG Entertainment will release his next project, "The MAJORity Rules," a mixtape that also
will feature artists like David Blayne, Juney Boomdata and Yung. Fans will be able to listen to and download the album from his label's Web site, www.3MGlive.com.

While he is experiencing success in his professional life, Kendricke Brown believes education is an integral step in achieving his overall goals. A 2009 graduate of Cartersville High School, he currently is studying audio production at the Art Institute of Atlanta.

"[To younger musicians] I would first say stay in school because school is going to play a big part in learning," he said. "I would say [learn] how to organize [your] thoughts and time. So school first and just stay motivated and dedicated to your craft and never let anybody tell you that you can't do something."

"It's Major"

If you are thinking about going to a K-Major show, then I encourage you to do so. This dude is hot and he knows it. His show at the Ron White Record Pool in Birmingham, AL was outstanding, “dude got swag” says Keith Jones editor of Deep Pocket Magazine. He really entertained me with his stage presence and it would be hard to dispute that he is a talented performer. The track he performed at this event, I would rock in my ride. However, he proved that he is more that capable of headlining a show. Who knows? He might even live up to the hype of being the next big thing in rap out of The ATL. The act before got the crowd riled up a little, with their “I DON’T WANT TO SELL DOPE NO MORE” t-shirts, which was funny, but I really cannot remember their stage names after I saw Mr. K-Major performance. With his impressive array of rapping skills, K-Major’s potential seems endless.

Question and Answer Session
1. (KEITH) What are some of the things that make K-Major hot?

(K-MAJOR) I am hot because of my originality and my ability to not only make good, timeless music, but also entertain my fans at shows. I am also hot because of my ability to change from singing to rapping and capture both crowds of hip-hop and pop.

2. (KEITH) What do you think is the number one misconception that you face by

being from ATLANTA?

(K-MAJOR) Atlanta has its own sound of music called “Swag Music” and I think me being from here people often think that is the genre I focus on. I am a musician and learn from studying legends. I want people to see me as the future not the right now. I want to be spinning on the radio when I am dead and gone…(KEITH) That’s deep bro!

3. .(KEITH) I see you on twitter, and other social sites, how many followers

do you have now?

(K-MAJOR) You know what my followers are starting slow, but my goal is to get up to 20,000 follows by July. Please follow me @kmajormusic !!!

4. .(KEITH) What should we expect from your next project?

(K-MAJOR) My next project is going to introduce me to the world. It will probably be self – titled. I want people to know who I am when they finish listening to the record. Every song will give a different representation of who I am and where I have been.

5. .(KEITH) Who is doing the production on your album?

(K-MAJOR) As of right now, I am doing a lot of production and co-production with a Producer out of Atlanta known as DJ Don Julio. Us producing together is like Drake and Boi 1da .

6. .(KEITH) Any features we know on your project?

(K-MAJOR) At this very moment, I have records with Juney Boomdata and F.L.Y (Swag Surfin). I want to get a record with more artists such as Sean Kingston, Soulja Boy, Roscoe Dash, and Justin Beiber..

7. .(KEITH) How did this whole music situation happen?

(K-MAJOR) I just love to create new things that help people get through their day. ~ Growing up my parents listened to a lot of old school music and I remember how it made me feel waking up. When you wake up to Earth Wind and Fire on a hot Saturday you know that it is a good day! It’s just the feeling.

8. (KEITH) Any upcoming show you would like to share?

(K-MAJOR) I’m currently trying to book Tours in the U.S. and the UK.

Im also about to audition for 106 and Park and the 15th Annual Birthday Bash in Atlanta.

9. (KEITH) How can people follow you on this social site?

""My Song" breaks Top 30 Charts"

Blog entry by Nadia Torres

Indie artist K-Major is getting closer and closer to making 'the whole world say this is my song.' His single 'My Song' has hit the top 30 on the Independent Music Network's mainstream music charts. The Independent Music Network breaks new artist by giving them an outlet to have their music played. Real fans vote for songs, not record executives, and determine what songs get played without all the politics.

3MG Entertainment released the single 'My Song' a little over a month ago and so far, the response from music listeners to DJs has been extremely positive. If the feedback he has received off the single is any indication of his fan appeal, then wait until his freshman album 'The MAJORity Rules' is released.

"K-Major - Shut It Down Feat. August Alsina [New Song]"

K-Major and August Alsina "Shut It Down" on their new duet.

There are plenty of rappers singing out in Atlanta, but we haven't seen too many breakout RnB acts over the last few years. K-Major is happy to occupy that currently vacant lane, getting some of the city's most sought-after producers to work at slower tempos and building a sound that's as fresh as it is familiar.

Warm keys and stuttering high hats work together on Major's new record, "Shut It Down," and while it has big shoes to fill with its title (it shares a name with Drake and The-Dream's Thank Me Later slow jam), we're not left disappointed, as August Alsina joins the party to create a duet that's just as memorable as its predecessor. - Hot New Hip Hop

"K-Major Twists And Waves His Girl Like A “Bandana”"

K-Major may be new to some music fans, but he’s been around for a while. You’ve probably heard his talents on Lincoln Heights, VH-1’s Hit the Floor, and BET’s The Game.

He’s even put in work with The Dream, French Montana, Chris Brown, Migos and Young Thug, among others.

Now, the Cartersville, GA native has his sights set on re-launching his solo career; this comes after the slick-crooner got his weight up on the production and songwriting side. Recently, the fresh-voiced crooner unleashed this sure-fire, radio-friendly and memorable single, “Bandana,” and his talents are obvious. With ease, Major rolls in and out of the ballad with boastful and raunchy lyrics about orgasms, and twisting and waving his girl like a bandana. - Vibe Magazine

"K- Major - "Bandana""

Proving to be a man of many talents, K-Major, started his tenure in the music industry at the age of 15 as a rapper, the 25 year-old singer-songwriter, in addition to his solo R&B projects, has racked up an impressive body of music working alongside the Grammy Award winning duo, The Dream and Tricky Stewart, and contributing to songs by major R&B, Hip-Hop, and Pop artists such as French Montana and Future. K-Major is definitely one to watch. - ThisIs50.com
