Another week and the Red Light Special is still going strong. Continuing to do their due diligence by spotlighting and promoting the culture, this weeks episode features an independent R&B artist who has been on her grind for a while and steadily building a fan base, Miami’s own Kirby Maurier.
Although Kristin gets caught in traffic for the first portion of the show, Rob gets the conversation started with Kirby talking about her independent grind on Valholla Entertainment, how cheating on her college boyfriend influenced some of her music, and her new project Doing The Most. - ThisisRnb.com
Kirby Maurier has been quiet for a while, but that only means she has something big coming up. Her latest hit, "Iz U Wit It," quickly became the typical Miami girl’s turn-up anthem. With a mix of R&B and hip-hop, Kirby always gives us something to move to. Expect her newest album, Doing the Most, to drop this year. - Miami New Times
Kirby Maurier is the R&B equivalent to trap music. The Miami songstress’ heavy baselines and harder concepts place her in the middle of both genres, gaining a wider fan base and lending way to her angelic vocal tone. Her “Class of 96” EP and her smash single “Iz U Wit It” take rap ideology and meld it with a sense of poetic innocence, making her the well rounded artist that she is. We caught up with her on Take 5 segment to talk “Doing The Most,” influences, and her style of R&B. Don’t let the pretty face fool you. - Jake Mayo for "A3C"
What's your favorite turn-up song? Ours is still French Montana's "Don't Stop."
But somewhere in Miami, it's very possible that your favorite stripper is twerking to Kirby Maurier's "Iz U Wit It."
The provocative Bass Boys Intl. produced melody has distanced itself from Maurier's previous project, Class of 96, a seven-track mixtape featuring tales of relationships over 90s classics such as Biggie's "Sky Is The Limit" and Common's "I Used To Love H.E.R."
With her new EP, Doing The Most, on the verge of a release date, Crossfade hung out with Kirby to talk about the struggle of being an R&B artist in Miami, her album Class of 96, and hearing her music in our city's strip clubs. - The Miami New Times
Professionally prepped and ready for a mainstream debut is Valholla Entertainment's songstress Kirby Maurier's newest release, "Iz U Wit It." A lethal combination of style, talent, a head-bouncing worthy beat and a catchy hook, it's obvious that the track was well thought out and executed - attributes only to be expected from a brand that has already solidified itself as a front runner in South Florida's indie scene.
Co-written by Maurier and the tracks producers, Bass Boys Intl., "Iz U Wit It" was recorded at Bleu Odin Studios, a division of Valholla, mixed by Jackpot Music, and mastered by Mark Omann. 2013 continues to be a winner for this circle. - SRenee for: The Examiner
Tired of the singing goats and dubstep sellouts? Well South Florida songstress, Kirby Maurier is finally preparing to drop her debut EP, Class of ’96 tomorrow. I’ve done a few posts on her before — and I absolutely love her and that voice.
Kirby’s new project is inspired by the sounds of the 1990s — the era of house parties, smooth grooves, and Martin episodes. The seven track EP has Ms. Maurier tackling 90s beats from artists like Common, Lil Kim and Nas.
It’s very simple, with a primary focus on vocals and the overall vibe of that decade’s music. It’s interesting to see how Kirby makes an R&B story out of these old hip-hop beats and I enjoyed it.
Check out my favorite cut, “Kool Out” below and look out for the full EP which drops tomorrow! - KID FURY
It's about time to start searching for that last-minute boo for fall, and Kirby Maurier makes a great point: if you're going to be running home to one person all winter, they better bring the heat. True to her point, this song screams summer club banger—nimble pop synths, humid hand claps—but then Maurier comes from Miami, so that might have something to do with it. Whatever, we're going to take this track (and all our white clothes) and stay shaking something into the next season. - The Fader
