"Recognize your royalty" is the first thing that should come to mind when mentioning the artist known as Kalel. In the pool of DMV talent, the 23 year old Maryland artist, brands himself as "King Kalel", a representation of his expressed self value. He was listed as a "DMV heavyweight we should be watching" by Karen Civil, upon the release of the love driven single "Can't Get Enough" in 2016.
Born on Christmas of 1993, Kalel was raised on music ranging from Al Jarreau to Rod Stewart to Michael Jackson. Although a non Hip-Hop upbringing, Kalel attributes his original inspiration, for creating, to Dipset & J. Cole. It wasn't until high school, where he began working on music, presenting original lyrics online, which led to his connection to, and beginning of his recordings with, the Maryland based entertainment company, TZO Entertainment. Today, his music has remnants of his inspirations, combining lyricism and depth with commercial bangers.
In 2014, Kalel released his first single, titled "Back & Forth", which began a slew of songs leading up to the release of his freshman EP entitled "The Last Son". This led to his first Virginia performance, alongside Maryland artist, Jett Bailey, and then locally acclaimed rapper, Jay IDK.
Kalel's most recent release, and fastest growing single, "Under Stars" earned acclaim from publications such as ELEVATOR Magazine, as he prepared for the release of his newly released EP entitled "kNIGHTS LIKE THIS".
