Kim & Mike... bluesy, funky, harmonizing goodness
- Hemingways Toronto (Aug 23, 2013) - Hemingway's Toronto (Canada)
“Enjoy the sweet voice and mellow vibe of this soon-to-be soft rock classic. Kim's sound harkens back to 70s greats like Fleetwood Mac and James Taylor with a contemporary feel.” - Women of Substance Radio - on bandcamp.com, USA
Toronto based singer-songwriter Kim Jarrett has a voice that fuses decades of pop music in a familiar and welcoming sound. Listening to Kim’s music takes me back to the soft FM stations of the 1970’s while still evoking the modern era and her own style.

Kim Jarrett's song "Not Mine" (from the cd, "Thinking of You") placed in the Top 5 of Pop category of the 10th Annual Great American Song Contest (2008)
http://www.greatamericansong.com - 10th Annual Great American Song Contest (International)
Of 530 artists from the US, and Canada, Kim Jarrett reached #9 on the contest charts with her song, "How Long" (from the cd, "Kim Jarrett"), which pitted the Toronto-based artist against some stiff, and eventually victorious, Boston-based competition to win an opening set at Bon Jovi's tour stop in Foxboro, Massachusetts in July 2010. In all, 3.3 million votes were cast by fans, and 13 artists won opening sets across 8 different North American stops of the band's, The Circle Tour.

"A couple who always deliver an entertaining show, whether they’re hosting their weekly Sunday night open stage at Spirits Bar & Grill, or showcasing with their band, as they do tomorrow night at The Old Nick, Kim Jarrett & Mike Costantino have a way of entrancing audiences while still making them feel they’re all on the same level. Jarrett, however, is definitely a cut above the average. A songwriter with interesting, pithy lyrics and very accessible melodies in what is probably aptly described as a Soft Rock style, she’s now released a couple of albums, including 2007’s gem, Thinking of You, which she used over the holiday season last winter to also raise funds for United Way."

"Kim Jarrett writes excellent songs that showcase her outstanding voice. There's nothing fancy or pretentious about the songs, or the voice, or Kim herself."

So Spirits Bar & Grill might be a little north for some Village devotees, but I think its weekly live music event is worth a saunter up toward Bloor. (That and its nachos.) Sundays starting at 9 p.m., the show kicks off with Kim Jarrett and Mike Costantino, who later introduce a roster of (mostly acoustic) local performers. The concept is "open mic," though many who take the stage have already planned to do so in advance. And typically, the show is pretty good.

Thanks to all involved with a very successful benefit for autistic children out at The Greene Turtle West last Sunday. This (6th annual) event rocked thanks to the efforts of the Turtle management and staff, sponsors and patrons that are almost too many to count and some local (and not so local) musicians! Wes Davis, The Full Circle Band and Pompous Pie were our go-to-guys and girls. Canadian alternative country act Kim Jarrett blessed us with a great set also. We lucked out! This husband and wife team just happened to be in the area. I gave their CD a listen also and am quite impressed. Her voice is a little Jewel and a little Neko Case. The album is entitled ‘Thinking of You’ and can be found at kimjarrett.com. Thanks to our friends from ‘The Great White North’!

"The straight-ahead folk/blues, pop and country influenced tunes nicely feature her clear, soulful voice, and some tasty guitar work by Tim Bovaconti (who plays for Ron Sexsmith)."

"Kim Jarrett's been called natural, melodic and enchanting and I definitely think that she is all those things. These aspects surprisingly travel well across the digital soundscape of her debut disc as Jarrett takes us through a folk-pop-blues mix that is hers yet at the same time comes from the musical places that a list of numerous other artists walk. In the album's fourth track, "Do I Have the Patience" there's a twangy guitar element that I really liked as Jarrett went a little more country with her sound... I recommend this album to anyone who likes real music so that they can hear a talent on the verge."

If you like love songs, you’ll love Kim Jarrett.
Kim Jarrett's award-winning soft rock is a warm and welcoming blend of blues, pop, folk and country that appeals to fans of greats like Sheryl Crow, Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt.
Over the last decade, Kim Jarrett’s voice and songwriting have been steadily collecting fans, awards and radio play. The Toronto based singer/songwriter has showcased at music festivals at home and in the US, received worldwide distribution on Philips Electronics mp3 players (“How Long”), and been featured on various compilation records and podcasts.
With a long and varied performance history including multiple long-term Toronto residencies, a stint as co-producer of the three season indie music series Bare Bones & Up Front at the Toronto Centre for the Arts (2014-2015), national radio play of two independent full-length releases (“Kim Jarrett”, “Thinking of You”) and co-writes released by other artists (Elana Harte & Stiletto Flats, Toronto Musicians for Change, Jimmy Warren), Kim Jarrett is a seasoned professional songwriter and musician committed to the pursuit of a great song and an entertaining live show.
Jarrett’s songwriting awards to date include a Top 5 Pop/AC and two Finalist awards from Great American Song (“Not Mine”, “I’ll Be”, “Christmas Every Day”), a semi-finalist award from Acoustic Roundtable (“Without Your Hands”), an honourable mention from SongDoor International (“Christmas Every Day”), and a #1 song award from ourstage.com (“How Long”). Live performance highlights include showcases at The Toronto Centre for the Arts (2014) and Dewey Beach Music Conference (2011), and festival spots with Canadian 80’s pop sensations The Spoons, and independent American folk-darling, Melissa Ferrick.
In addition to performing her original material, and cover-based shows in her long-running acoustic duo with bassist/producer and husband, Mike Costantino (“Kim & Mike”), Kim Jarrett is also a vocalist/percussionist and sometimes drummer, performing with bands at venues like The Palais Royale, and festivals like Toronto Pride, and Taste of the Danforth. In 2012 Kim was a part of a James Bond theme song band performance which raised over $2,000 for Sick Kids Hospital, and in 2014, Kim Jarrett & Elana Harte wrote, "Christmas Every Day", and formed the ad hoc collective - Toronto Musicians for Change - to record it and help raise $1,700 for Daily Bread Food Bank. "Christmas Every Day" also received spins on AC radio across Canada over the 2014 and 2015 holiday seasons.
Kim is currently rediscovering her love of classical piano while recording new material of her own, and performing and recording with “Beautiful Salt” – a co-writing project and blues/pop/americana act with Toronto based singer/songwriter Elana Harte.
