Kenny Shore — “Almost Like Heaven”
Americana Highways presents this premiere of Kenny Shore’s song “Almost Like Heaven,” from his upcoming release Time Stands Still, due to be released on November 4th. Time Stands Still was recorded at the Rubber Room in Chapel Hill, NC over a two week timeframe. The album was engineered and produced by Jerry Brown. Album artwork and design is by Hayley Shore, and the clock photo is courtesy of Susanne Sprague in Paris, France.
Kenny Shore plays acoustic guitar and sings lead vocals on “Almost Like Heaven.” In addition, musicians on this recording are Rob Ladd on drums; Robert Sledge on bass; Andrew Marlin on mandolin and octave mandolin (Curtis); Jerry Brown on banjo; Joseph Terrell on archtop guitar and backing vocals; and Lizzie Ross on backing vocals.
For all of us who felt the loss when John Prine died, this song is an offering of cathartic release, and with the crickets and the back porch and his vocal cadence — really the whole song — Kenny Shore certainly evokes John Prine. Shore offers the sentiment “let’s keep this all going for a long long while,” sound advice coming from deep within lovely songwriting.
I cried the day John Prine died. I just started playing his albums and cried.. This is a true story of … let’s call it a “dream-like state” I experienced one night where I truly felt his presence in the room. He gave me the chorus verbatim. — Kenny Shore - Americana Highways
