"Bluesfest had a Barrhaven flavour last weekend, as local singer/songwriter Kelsey Hayes took the stage as a finalist for the national She's the One Contest. The 19-year-old Carleton University Bachelor of Music student and emerging singer/songwriter won the right to display her talents in front of several high-level industry representatives, including representatives from Universal Music Canada. Her songs have a distinct pop sound, with catchy melodies. She is a dedicated vocalist, who began writing songs on piano and later on guitar, at age 11. Bio
Beginning as a vocalist, Kelsey branched out early on into writing her own material. She released her debut EP to a sold-out crowd at Ottawa’s own Mercury Lounge in fall 2015 and is set to record her debut album in 2017. When she is not performing, Kelsey is a prominent member of the student body that comprises Carleton University’s singer-songwriter program through which she was honoured as the 2015 winner of the Musik Ottawa competition. Kelsey's most recent shows have been several large festival gigs in Ottawa; such as Bluesfest and Cityfolk 2016.
