New York, NY – Up and coming R&B artist, Keishera, makes a bold statement with her latest single Body Language and wins fans from all over the world. The catching tribute to independence makes an eye opening revelation for many and that’s not to sell yourself short.
Written in just thirty minutes and produced within one day, Keishera worked with Kram, a master mind producer from the Upper East Side of New York, who not only adds a distinct sound of flavor to Keishera’s lyrics, but helps her message by giving it an added reggae infused vibe.
When asked what inspired her to write Body Language, Keishera states, “I wrote body language because it was like venting. I had some things to get off my chest and what better way than to put it in song. At the same time it's a message, especially to young ladies, saying don’t sell yourself short and know your worth.”
Currently at work on her forthcoming CD, Keishera’s goal in writing Body Language is to encourage her listeners, both male and female to hold themselves in high regard when it comes to relationships and making them work. Setting a tone that can be understood and appreciated, this is one of many singles that will touch hearts and open the minds of many.

New York-based, Jamaican-born singer Keishera released her sophomore album It's Me in October. The 13-track set is an eclectic mix of reggae and soul standards.
The album is led by the first single Beautiful Mind.
“I've put my heart and soul into this project because I wanted to create a wonderful album for my fans. I'm very pleased with the response it's getting. I think it has the potential to be a huge hit internationally,” Keishera told the Jamaica Observer.
“I'm grateful to all people who helped to make this project a reality and all the DJ's who are supporting my music,” she continued.
Other tracks include Pull Over, Mad Over Me, Missing You, Slave to the System, and I'm Ready Now.
Keishera (full name Keishera James) began her professional career as a teen model, appearing in American publications including Essence and Heart & Soul magazine. She also appeared in commercials for Iman Cosmetics.
Having launched her musical career in 2004 with the song So Good on the Young Blood label, Keishera has collaborated with a few entertainers including Shaggy. - jamaica Observer
Keishera James was born in Kingston, but grew up in Brooklyn, New York. James began her professional career as a model, but once the music virus hits you it's hard to shed and a number of serendipitous encounters with Atlantic Records mogul Ahmet Ertegun, singer Pati Labelle, and writer Maya Angelou, convinced Keishera to embrace her real passion. Earlier this year she already presented the 6 track 'Body Language' EP, now followed by this full-fledged 'It's Me Keishera' album. Stylistically, Keishera, who alternates between reggae, r&b and soul, can best be compared to Jamaican contemporaries like Etana or Sevana. Focusing our attention on the reggae-influenced tracks on the album, 'Let Me Love You' is a more then successful lovers rock ballad, and the same goes for 'I'm Ready Now' and 'What We Gonna Do'. Not a lovers tune, but a song of praise to the almighty is 'Beautiful Mind', 'Pull Over' is a lovely breakup song over a rocksteady riddim, and for 'Mad About Me', reminding us of Diana King's glory days, Keishera even goes dancehall-light. Nice discovery! - RebleBase

This album begins with My Story. It touches on the down side of my up bringing; the abuse and absence of my father. My early years had me feeling discouraged because there was a lack of care and mistreatment towards me from my father’s side of the family. It was a hard realizing I was indeed the black sheep in a family I didn’t ask for. My spirit was broken for a good part of my life. I was always a smart kid, so the first chance I got to escape and return to my Mother’s care I took, along with courage to speak up, and set distance between my father and I. I was grateful my mother and Grandmother did not force me to go back to live with him. From the age of seven he’d been absent from my life, never played an active role and offered no support. For many years I felt neglected, unwanted and it took lots of self care to realize that I was better off without him. I didn’t let them break me down. Thanks to my mother and Grandmother who did their best to instill good values in me. Of course my mother and I had our challenges, as well, but we worked through it and her motivation, now, is why I am still here. Writing “My Story” was like chains being broken. It allowed me to let go of all the hurt I endured throughout the years.
“Let Me Love You” I wrote “Let me love you” a few years ago. It’s about realizing you want more from a casual situation, a love letter of sorts. I had a serious crush on someone, like never before and even though he had no idea how I felt, mainly because we are friends, I was afraid it would ruin our friendship. I got good song out of it. He later figured it out, but our distance was too great to pursue a relationship. So, I just let it be!

A natural beauty, Keishera began her professional career as a teen model, appearing in major U.S. publications Essence and Heart & Soul Magazine, as well as ads for Iman Cosmetics. However, in the midst of a successful modeling career, Keishera remained steadfast to her true calling – music, and began pursuing her dream after several chance meetings with influential icons singer Patti Labelle, co-founder of Atlantic Records Ahmet Ertegun, and poet/activist Maya Angelou – who each encouraged her to focus on her gifts and follow her passion.

Those serendipitous encounters lead Keishera to explore her musical boundaries full-time, writing and recording in the U.S., Europe, and Jamaica. She has been blessed to work with notable Jamaican music makers Paul Henton, Barry O’Hare, Syl Gordon, Christopher Birch – who co-wrote her hit anti-domestic violence anthem “Cry No More”, and De Krew Productions – who put the finishing touches on her first full length EP “Body Language” (2013) featuring the catchy single “Rock Star”. Most recently she has worked with German producer Smoli (DJ Zafer Smoliface).
After forming her own band, another of Keishera’s blessings came from the stage, as she has been called to perform at popular music festivals Reggae Jam, Berlin’s Festival of Hope, the Friesland Reggae Open Air, and Fete de La Musique.
Some of Keishera’s songs that have gained radio play in Jamaica and Europe include her first single “I Want You”, “Pull Over”, her acoustic tune “So Good”, “Rock Star”, “Body Language”, “Sorry” and “Feels Right” featuring International Reggae Superstar Shaggy produced by Shane Brown. Keishera currently lives between Berlin, Germany, and New York City, and regularly performs at venues across both countries. Set to release her second EP “It’s Me, Keishera” on September 22, 2017, Keishera will embarking on her first solo international tour. With her vibrant stage presence and relatable audience appeal that always leaves crowds begging for more, Keishera is most definitely a megastar in the making. - where it's at magazine

To say it plainly, Keishera James has spirit. Her voice, raspy at first listen, moves into a deep warm song that seemingly never ends with each new melody. Primarily focusing on a mixture of reggae and soul, James’ upbringing is her first and foremost influence.
She was born in Kingston, Jamaica and grew up in Brooklyn.
“The great thing about being from Jamaica is that they have a very eclectic reach when it comes to music,” said James. “My mom listened to Kenny Rogers all the time. Sade, too! And then Tina Turner and Tracey Chapman just resonated with my heart. I just like real, raw music.”
“The great thing about being from Jamaica is that they have a very eclectic reach when it comes to music. My mom listened to Kenny Rogers all the time. Sade, too! And then Tina Turner and Tracey Chapman just resonated with my heart.” She added,“I just like real, raw music.”
James was not always a singer, though. She began modeling as a teenager and worked a few different jobs in New York. However, throughout her modeling career, she knew that singing was what she was here to do. She has met with a variety of producers and songwriters, most prominently singer Patti Labelle and poet/activist Maya Angelou. Everyone James has met with has encouraged her to sing. So, she went for it.
James has since created a life for herself in Germany and frequently performs there. She said, “It was in the moment, it just clicked in my head that I needed to give myself a chance. I thought ‘if I go to a country where [singing] is all I’m known for, I can do anything anywhere.’” After blindly buying herself a ticket to Germany, James has created a life there full of music, friendship, and reggae.
Her first EP ‘Body Language’ came out in 2013 and featured the single ‘Rock star.’ Since then, James has been focusing on her most recent album “It’s me, Keishera” (2017). It was officially released on October 6 and has been well received.
Keishera James writes what she feels. She said, “Once someone asked me, ‘Who are you writing to? What is your story?’ From that moment, every time I pen a song, I just try to make it honest and real; this is how I’m feeling right now.”
Throughout James’ new album, the songs expose James’ truest fervor as she sings, “I wish I had the money to give to correct a multitude of sins” in her opening “Song of Hope.” Later, in her sonic ballad ‘Emotion’: “Where are you? I can feel your gravity pulling me in.”
James absorbs moments and promptly turns them into songs. One day, when she was waiting at Hoboken Train Station in New Jersey, James saw a homeless man rummaging through trash. “The man was collecting bottles in a crowded station and no one noticed. I audibly said ‘Oh my god’ and then started singing.” She sang the lyrics out loud and the man came up to her and asked if she was going to record the song. She told him she hoped so, and then he walked away. James recounted, “I looked down; I felt like it was a surreal moment. Then I looked up and this man was nowhere to be found. He could not have been gone quicker. It felt like an angel. I searched every crevice of every corner and I said… where did he go? Where is this man?”
“I looked down; I felt like it was a surreal moment. Then I looked up and this man was nowhere to be found. He could not have been gone quicker. It felt like an angel. I searched every crevice of every corner and I said… where did he go? Where is this man?”
The homeless man served as a beacon of light for James and her work; after Song of Hope was recorded, a woman in Germany named a music festival after the song and James was the lead act. Her music often stems from inspiration and experience, as her rawness remains consistent throughout the album.
James’ work is personal and up-close; her song “My Story” is influenced by her distant relationship with her father while ‘Slave to the System’ focuses on police brutality, black-on-black crime, and senseless acts of hatred and violence.
The singer is planning her upcoming solo tour in Europe starting in March 2018. She said, “I don’t want to say who I’ll be performing with yet, but it will be a beautiful thing.”
James is both passionate and headstrong as she takes on prevalent issues with full force.
“Whatever my subject matter is, I want it to impact and empower,” she mused.

Keishera James Has Soul Flowing In Her
Posted on May 15, 2011 by Sherese Francis
Keishera James
Looking at Keishera James, you can tell that there is something about her. Sitting in class, she speaks with an energy, a confident air and an enthusiasm for learning. But going to a transit-oriented college like Baruch, it is difficult to get to know the life under those first impressions. Fortunately, this time I was able to learn about the exciting life of one of Baruch’s most accomplished artists.
James, who was born in Jamaica, exudes the diva presence of singers who came before her like Tina Turner and Whitney Houston, who are two of her idols. However, her raspy alto voice is reminiscent of singers like Anita Baker and Tracy Chapman, one of the artists who helped James to overcome her past fear of her own voice.
“One of major inspirations to become a songwriter was Tracy Chapman because of the way she writes… she didn’t look like the ordinary pop star but her delivery was so powerful and her subject matters were something you could relate to, or if you could not relate, you could picture it…”
And James’ music is similar in that it is a great mixture of soulful, sensual, honest emotion with a laid-back and cool flow harkening back to Quiet Storm soul and R&B music of the late 70s to early 90s. The hint of her Jamaican accent coming through her songs also provides a distinct vocal touch.
On her own since 16, James’ voice and songs have taken her to several places, like London, Paris and of course, New York City, and she will be taking a semester off from school to go to Berlin to continue her career. However, the road to becoming a star has not always been easy. “It’s a hard road to travel because because there are a lot of talented people, especially in New York City. Every other person is a star…” James even wrote a song about it, called “Wanna Be a Rockstar,” in which she sings, “Everybody wanna be a rockstar/don’t nobody have to work for it/some wanna be an overnight superstar/but you and me we have to work for it.”
James continued that there are also a lot of fickle people who do not keep promises and it is hard to find the key people who will recognize you, but she believes in persistence, taking initiative and having encouraging friends. These three things have helped her to have a number of memorable moments, such as a hit song in Europe with Shaggy called “It Feels Right,” and opening for rapper Common in front of a crowd of 25,000 at the Fort Greene Festival in Brooklyn.
Other memorable moments from her career was dancing with David Beckham at a night club (“he was very polite, very nice”), meeting with Ahmet Ertugun before he died, and interviewing De La Soul and Anthony B. During the past two years, she has gone back to school, first at the New York City College of Technology and now at Baruch, which she attended to prove she could get in and is majoring now in Liberal Arts. However, it seems that this interview has influenced her to do an ad-hoc major in music and journalism.
Royalty Network, who signed James in 2007 to their music publishing company had these words to say about her then, “Keishera’s on her way to proving her ability to stand out as a writer and artist. Since her recent introduction to the business, she’s already appeared alongside Shaggy, and #1 Reggae act in France, Lord Kossity. ….while this star-in-the-making hopes to open minds with her unique vocals and reggae-soul fusion, ultimately, she just wants to make good music.”
In an interview with The Grio, singer and producer Teddy Riley commented on how some of the recent R&B music lacked substance, but now it’s starting to come back. Mary J. Blige made a similar comment in an MTV interview last year. James wants to bring as Blige says that “healing power” back to R&B music.
Planning on creating a style of her own, taking soul and infusing it with a little of rock and reggae, James will be releasing three singles, “Rockstar,” “Say What’s On Your Mind,” and “Think of Me,” soon. Asked how she describes her music, James responded, “Passionate! …My music is my salvation… music has transformed any situation…sometimes it’s just hard; fear sets in when you are a musician and you are creative a lot, and it helps to quiet the mind from all the chatter, doubts and fears…music is a remedy for anything.” - Baruch college - Sherese Francis

Singer Songwriter Keishera released her New Single Mr. Right on October 7th, 2022, Keishera describes her music as a mash-up of her Roots and Culture. Born in Jamaica and raised in the US, her branches have stretched even further to Germany where she made the connection with musicians from the Evolution band specifically Giuseppe Coppola who with the help of his team composed the music of me right. Her raspy alto tones will draw you into her Sultry innuendos and sexy tone, Keishera pens all her songs which as she put it, ” it’s life imitating art”
The song Mr. Right looks past the superficiality and focuses on character. Like a man’s thoughtfulness, and willingness to lead and be vulnerable at the same time. I realize that I want a man who is courageous, genuine, loving, caring, compassionate, and consistent with himself, me, his family and his community. I am ready for the things that come with partnership in a loving sound way, that exhibits vitality of mind, body, and spirit. So I am calling… Manifesting my Mr. Right into my life. Ultimately I feel everyone can relate to this song. I believe it’s about being intentional. Interns of putting lyrics to music, it was a pleasure creating with producer Giuseppe ( Flash ) Coppola whom I have worked on several occasions, I had written this song some years back so while we were on a music residency in China, we came up with the concept for the music pre-pandemic, and would perform it live, then during the pandemic while I was back in Nyc and he in Germany I sent him the vocal stems and he produced the music mix and mastered it, so grateful for our partnership. - World of Reggae
- kabina34

From the very moment the vocals take center stage, you know how much time has been taken in ensuring the structure feels well thought out. There's a sultriness to her vocals, yet they also burst with power. Keishera’s uniqueness and originality create a soulful Reggae fusion that is consistent throughout the rhythmic song.
Her highs welcome her lows, and when the music hits, you can’t help but rock your body to the beat.
The song Mr. Right looks past the superficiality and focuses on character like a man’s thoughtfulness, his willingness to lead and be vulnerable at the same time. My desire is for a man who is courageous, genuine, loving, caring, compassionate and consistent to himself, to me, his family and community. And I am continuously ready for the things that come with partnership in a loving sound way, that exhibits vitality of mind, body and spirit. The lyrics of this song are a calling… Manifesting my Mr. Right into my life. Ultimately I feel everyone can relate to this song;
it's about being intentional.
It was a pleasure creating with producer Giuseppe (Flash) Coppola whom I have worked with on several occasions. I wrote this song some years back and always wanted to perform it live, and so while we were on my music residency in China, Flash & I worked out the details while performing; the reception was pretty dope! It became a priority for me during the pandemic. My vocals were recorded in NYC, mixed and mastered in Berlin DE,
...and here it is!
Learn More about Keishera...
Q: Please, introduce yourself and tell us what got you into music and made you realize that it was your chosen path?
A: My name is Keishera, Jamaican born international Reggae Soul singer outta Brooklyn, NY. Music happened to me unexpectedly, I am definitely a late bloomer in regards to finding my way! Singing has always been my happy place, where I found peace of mind and comfort from over thinking and worrying about my
troubles. I would say living alone at an early age. Dealing with
family issues made me emotional enough to get lost in my own world, making up
songs, singing to myself everywhere I went-on the train, at work - I was the
office MP3… I would just sing out not caring who was listening. It became
more apparent when I got the invited to join the late Greg Tate’s band “Burnt
Suga”, the audience's reaction when I sang was all love, this one woman told me
to guard my voice with my life! I thought to myself ok cool maybe I should be
more intentional. Later I put my band together and played around town and
people came out and would keep coming. What really solidified it for me
was a trip to Jamaica, after couple of days of being on the island I found
myself in studios working with Mr. G. producing a song called “So Good”, I was
so nervous-but the experience woke up something in me that made me believe in
the process. Shortly after I was introduced to Shane Brown who produced
“It Feels Right” featuring in Shaggy on a Riddim called Klimaxx, then Christopher Birch produced “Cry No More” on the Cry Baby Riddim. All good
experiences, but the challenge was that my visit was over and I had to return to the States. And so with no manager or direction, at the time, I was just
grateful for the experience. Thereafter I paused, went back to school, then
moved to Germany in the pursuit of happiness and opportunities. I was led
to DJ’s and venues that invited me in. All these experiences made music,
singing and songwriting my passion, which gave life to my musical journey,
and slowly I started to really put in the time to develop my skills as an
artist and it fills me with excitement each time I touch a stage.
Q: Who are your biggest musical influences? And any particular artist/band you would like to collaborate with in the future?
A: ‘Old school music’ is one of my biggest influences, not exactly genre specific.
I love a lot of artists; I draw inspiration from a lot of people: songwriters
and real performers that you can feel the soul bouncing off their music, that energy holds me long after the performance has finished. Singers like Tina Turner, Sade, Al Green, Sam Cook, Bill Withers, Prince, De Angelo. I loved Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, and Reggae music in general: Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Buju Banton, Supper Kat, Shaggy, Marcia Griffiths ... The songwriting
and melody on a lot of these songs is what really grabs my
attention. Tracy Chapman to me is off the chain lyrically, so is Ed Sheeran and
Adel. I loved Amy Winehouse - all these different singer-
songwriters are just like wow. In terms of New Age - Alicia Keys, HER, Ella Mai,
Rihanna, Jay Z, Estelle, Jay Cole, Kendric.k Lamar It would be a dream to work with any of the living artists mentioned because I really admire them all.
Q: How do you feel the internet and social media
has impacted the music business?
A: Social media has given independent artists the space to be creative and reach
audiences they wouldn’t otherwise reach in a faster manner, without the help of
big record labels. Creatives now have the ability to build their image
and brands more freely, introduce it to the viewers, and allow them to decide
if they want to follow or not. It’s amazing and terrifying at the same
time, because you are exposed to many eyes and hears instantly and once your
content is out, it’s hard to pull it back. So you have to be intentional.
Q: What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?
A: I would tell aspiring musicians to take the time to know who you are in general
and creatively, make sure you really love what you do because it’s not the
easiest path, but when you love what you do, it will never feel like work.
Surround yourself with folks who truly believe in your creative expression and
want to see you excel. Don’t be easily discouraged by others telling you
no, create your own yes path. Believing in yourself first is key and the
rest will follow.
Q: What’s next for you? Any upcoming projects?
A: There’s a few more follow-up singles coming and I am working on an album that is '60s soul inspired that I recorded in Berlin prior to the pandemic.
My hope is to release it mid 2023.
