Bio
Shanelle “Kazayah” Mitchell is a first generation American from the Chicago area who has all the energy of her Jamaican culture and heritage flowing through her. She began singing as a child and went on to work with a Evanston producer making a connection to roots-reggae and performing alongside some of the most iconic artists of a generation at venues around the world.
Never one to stand still for long, Kazayah is now busy organizing her band, as well as working hard in the studio. She works on a mixture of her own projects and collaborations with various other producers. Her latest debut EP “I Am Kazayah,” was released under her recent distribution partnership with Tuff Gong Worldwide (Ziggy Marley’s record label). The EP consists of 5 original soulful songs; including roots reggae songs, dancehall, and Nyahbinghi acoustic styles.
Now considered one of most promising female vocalists and songwriters in the world of Reggae, with comparisons to the likes of Marcia Griffiths, Lauryn Hill, and JAH 9 are understandable and Kazayah intends to continue to bring light, joy, and most of all peaceful vibrations to many more souls as she continues to share her powerful and unique music around the world.
