"Kage O’Malley doesn’t care much for the machine - he’s just on it for the ride. After years of busking from town to town, hopping railcars, and hitching rides around the country, our lone wanderer put down his thumb to incubate in a well of music and perpetual night before emerging with a sound that, like him, is rustic and soulful as it rides on the ratchet-crank rhythm reminiscent of a freight train leaving the loop station.
"His live performances are a reminder of the makeshift nature that made rock and roll exciting in the first place. Surrounded by pedals to manipulate and a gallery of stringed instruments and other trinkets, he conducts the emotions of the crowd from bittersweet nostalgia to uproarious, bar-stomping ecstasy with the simple cancellation and recursion of a loop. By the end of the show it wouldn’t be unusual for the crowd to have joined in on the stage with drums and dancing and singing, because if there’s anything Kage O’Malley will leave you with, it’s the sense that life is not a spectator sport and it’s far more fun when you play with the world."
