Watching a parent or other older loved one slowly losing his or her mental faculties due to Alzehimer's, dementia or other degenerative disease is among the most agonizing experiences anyone can go through. Most people have a hard time treating such a situation with anything but denial, and few of them indeed have the courage to convert those feelings into art. But JT did.
A Houston rapper who has appeared on 106th and Park, JT wanted to do something to help his dad, so he turned to music. Instead of giving up, or losing faith, he made the album Moment of Silence, which came out this past week. "Honestly I'm still expecting God to do a miracle with my father," he says. JT is donating a portion of each sale to dementia research, which is really all we really need to you (and isn't that enough?). Read more about JT's incredible story on his own Web site. Bio
Born July 2, 1986, JT and his two brothers and one sister were raised in Houston, Texas by their mother and step- father. Although he was raised in the church, he led a life of promiscuity, street fighting, guns and violence.
JT helped form the group Still Trill Christians (STC) in 2005 with plans to take the life changing message worldwide. STC was the first Christian hip hop group to be featured on BET’s number 1 countdown show, 106 and Park. In 2010, President Barack Obama awarded STC the volunteer service award for their song “No Sex”.
In 2013, Still Trill Christians released their first album “Kings” which broke into the top 40 Billboard Gospel charts. After 9 years of being in a group, JT made the decision to break away from the group and initiate his solo career.
Just off of a fresh release of his first solo project "Moment of Silence" JT has his eyes set on bigger things.
Hip Hop influences the culture of this generation and the next, therefore JT’s goal is to give hip hop a complete makeover through music, film, and speaking. JT’s vision is to revive the past, revolutionize the present, and prepare the future. Through music JT believes that in order to make a permanent positive impact you have to be honest with a generation that bases their logic on being “real”. By being relevant and transparent, and with sincere conviction, JT aspires to encourage the listener to be who God has called them to be in the beginning, a King or Queen.
