Columbia, SC native Joshua Ross (23) is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who’s getting ready to take the world by storm. His songs are politically charged and filled with rawness and emotion that some say has never been heard before in music. He has been cultivating a project for the past few years telling his story of life and death named, ‘Your Time is Coming Soon…’. He released two singles for FREE in anticipation titled “Muerte de Pablo” and “Lament” (links below) both showcasing who he is as an artist and most importantly a person. On these two tracks alone you can find him weaving flamenco guitar and world percussion with modern day Electronic and Hip-Hop elements to create a distinct flavor that screams revolution through the vocals. The project is slated to release on June 19th at 12:06 am your time across all online music stores so be sure to check it out you’ll be in for a real treat! - Electrowow
“Do not assume that I have come to bring peace on Earth.”
While that might very well be the case here homies, Joshua also stands a great chance of uniting the people through the music he makes as he prepares for battle, ready to scorch the planet. Dude is only twenty-three years old and he’s played every instrument, sung every bar, wrote all the lyrics – everything we hear on his debut album is ALL Joshua, ALL day homies…and believe me when I say, I doubt that this guy even knows how great he truly is. Records like Your Time Is Coming Soon… are that next evolution & phase that’s a step ahead of the rest…for a debut album, this is beyond all possible expectation and a seriously memorable first impression from an artist that’s clearly got his head in the game. Representing Columbia, SC – Joshua’s got real potential to go far, far beyond the borders of his state with what he’s got here on Your Time Is Coming Soon… – this is an exceptional debut, straight-up.
I’ll say this right off the bat as well…I think he’s out-written me here. As in, the album is laid out in chapters, I-XI – and looking at the titles, you can tell there’s likely a deep thematic element to this entire record that’s probably flying well over my head. I can see/hear the Latin American tie-ins…I can recognize names like Pablo in the title might refer very well to the infamous Escobar…I can see from the album cover that Joshua understands this is the time for revolution, and you can hear that in some of the social commentary that runs throughout this album. I know there are probably several levels that this record spins on due to the remarkably quality and content on Your Time Is Coming Soon… – I’m not going to pretend I’m capable of getting right inside his head and know exactly what the thread that pulls it all together is…but that being said, I certainly understand what cohesion sounds like and Joshua’s put an album’s worth of tracks together that belong in this set. Your Time Is Coming Soon… flows perfectly.
Honestly. This guy is TWENTY-THREE. Just in case you missed that earlier. Mind blowing.
Give it one spin and you’ll likely attune yourself to the vibe, style, & sound of Joshua’s music by the time it’s done; give it several spins and by the time you’re done the third repetition you’ll be hooked so hard you’ll actually be surprised at how quickly the strength of the bond to this record can be formed. There is…quite frankly…SO MUCH innovation and SO MANY ideas on display here that you can’t help but be glued to Joshua’s every move on the m-i-c. I’ve been listening to Your Time Is Coming Soon… all week long and I STILL couldn’t tell you if I like this guy better in the flow of his rhymes or singing in the hooks he writes…and then like, I mean, if I get started on how rad the music is, we’re gonna be here all day. The balance and imagination on this album already reaches depths that artists/bands that have been around for years would be jealous of – no joke, it’s beyond a good debut – Your Time is Coming Soon… is a genuine highlight of 2018, full of quality ideas, commitment, relentless ambition & stunning execution. Still some room to grow of course…it IS still a debut…but MAN this dude is already firing on all cylinders. - Sleeping Bag Studios
Joshua Ross is a multi faceted singer/songwriter and producer from Columbia, SC on a mission to raise the vibration frequencies of Earth. Basically, he’s going to change the world. “Sometimes we just need to hear the truth”, speaking in regards to his debut album, “Your Time is Coming Soon...”. “I remember one of the first lies I ever told was in the 2nd grade I told a girl (shout out Ariana) I lived in a mansion because I didn’t want to look poor haha. Really, I lived in a small one story house and walked to school everyday. We usually use lies as coping mechanisms. Everything has an equal and opposite reaction so I learned quick now I’m too honest lol.” That honesty is exactly what is communicated through “Your Time is Coming Soon...” telling his story and perception of life and death. “I have experienced a lot throughout my life joy and heartache but, being introverted, I kept all these good and bad experiences inward. I like to appear stoic. Eventually the years of hoarding took its toll and I broke down. I found the songwriting process as a way to release these said experiences and here I am now.” Joshua says that “Your Time is Coming Soon...” is just one arc of an ongoing project. “God told me that this album is what our current world needs. I put all my intentions and wants, even life, aside and literally let God speak through me to create this. Hate it or love it just hearing this will improve our existence. Stories don’t have an ending just a moment of reprieve before evolving into another iteration. Energy cannot be created or destroyed only transferred. This is just the beginning of my story the end of another.” Make sure to check out Joshua’s debut album “Your Time is Coming Soon...” available everywhere! You’ve never heard anything like this. “This isn’t about money this isn’t about fame this is about empowering people to inner stand what freedom truly is. That is truth.” - BreezySays
What first drew you into music?
I had a music teacher in 2nd Grade, her name was Mrs. Powers, and she always showed us how to have fun with music. Every time I would ask a question or get called on to give an answer she would always sing, “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho”. Now that I think about it I suppose God was speaking to me through her.
Your track “Geronimo” is absolutely amazing! How did you achieve such a great signature sound in such a short time? Also, what is your creative process like?
Much love and thank you! Finding “my sound” was more so about channeling the energy and message God wants me to spread. Most of the time I go into the writing process with a blank slate and let the song manifest other times I write the vocals or guitar melody and build around that. Maybe it’ll take 5 minutes to create maybe a couple days. To me it’s less about the fire and more so about the fire starter.
Going over your Soundcloud we can tell you love experimenting with new sounds. Can you tell us more about your studio setup and some of your favorite plugins/instruments?
Yes, the sonics are vital to add diversity and character to the overall plot so I try to stay inspired with as many instruments and plug-ins possible haha. I have a multitude of instruments, midi keyboards, portable interface for on the go recording, etc. But I would say out of all the gear my favorite is my Multiac Nylon Duet Ambiance Natural HG. My favorite plug-in is either Fab Filter Eq or Valhalla Room.
Your music sounds very organic and authentic. Do you play any real-life instruments?
Yes, I play mainly classical guitar but can create on pretty much all instruments by ear. Except saxophone. Got me sounding like Squidward on the clarinet lol.
What are your musical goals for the future?
More placements and GRAMMY’S! But awards aside I aim to and will spread the message of God past, present, and future. All goals and aspirations arise from that single thought and will be achieved as such.
What are your goals for the coming months? Any upcoming projects we can get excited about?
In the next coming months my goals are to spread love and the glory of God. How ever he/she sees fit. I do have a project in the works titled, “Billboard Evangelist” that is going to be monumental for any and all who listen. All I can say is stay tuned. - HBT Magazine
