Bio
It’s all about the guitar. It caresses, attacks, and drives the melody without overpowering it. The sound speaks knowledge like a beat poet, freestyles in a cipher, and then reclines in a corner like a jazz player after a three hour set. It has been dubbed “Hardsoul” named by producer/songwriter/guitarist Jermaine Mobley.
If you translate the Hardsoul sound into a musical equation it would be:
traditional soulful melodies + instrumentation + muscular hip-hop beats + writing = sonic activism.
Many artists, including Musiq (SoulChild), Carl Thomas, Eric Roberson and Jagged Edge, have worked with Hardsoul to create original compositions that push the boundaries of traditional R&B and progressive urban music.
In 2016, Hardsoul continues his mission with the release of his first album“LANE”, an eclectic creation and curation of songs that bounce from old school R&B to Nu-Soul. Attention Grown Folks: You will be dancing! The project features fellow established artists such as Carmen Rodgers of Foreign Exchange, Shamea Morton of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, and Darius Scott of NBC’s “The Voice”. It is be available everywhere that digital music is sold.
The Atlanta born and based multi-instrumentalist started playing guitar at 11-years- old. He formed a local rap group and quickly learned the power of running the boards. At Howard University, he studied jazz then transitioned to producing. Soon after graduating and moving to New Jersey, Hardsoul began placing songs with major labels. With musical tastes as varied as his production projects, Hardsoul lists artists like A Tribe Called Quest, Tony! Toni! Toné!, and Teddy Riley for helping to shape his style. He also credits producers like Raphael Saadiq, Salaam Remi, Ryan Leslie and Warryn Campbell for pushing music forward, while giving homage to the past.
