Bio
This rockin’, blues, multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter at 15 years of age became the youngest member of the Duke University Jazz Ensemble under the direction of John V. Brown, Jr. Nominated 2014 Male Rock Artist of the Year Carolina Music Awards, 2014 Triangle Blues Society Blues Challenge Solo Winner, a recipient of the 2010 Best Overall Musician Award from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington Music, voted 2011 Carolina Youth Artist of the Year and Song of the Year Semi-finalist Winner, child prodigy Jason Damico has shared the stage with jazz and blues greats such as: Vincent Gardner (trombone), Ray Codrington (trumpet), Kevin Mahogany (vocals), Jason Marsalis (drums), Joe Chambers (drums), Monty Alexander (piano), Big Daddy Wilson (vocals/guitar), Claudette King (vocals) and Lucky Peterson (piano/guitar/vocals).
If you enjoy listening to the sounds of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix, Albert King, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Robert Cray, Jim Morrison and Mark Farner, etc. this artist is a must see! Jason's philosophy towards the music he writes and performs is "to keep REAL organic, emotionally moving music ALIVE and WELL with a passion and positive message."
Born in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1994, an area rich in American Roots music, Jason's fascination with sound became apparent as a toddler with his ability to discern individual instruments in a piece of music.Growing up in a family that valued music, he began formal piano lessons at 3, drums at 4, guitar at 9 (self-taught) and writing originals at 10. At 13 he started performing professionally in local coffee shops, private parties, weddings and church where he was affectionately known as Drummin' Damico.
In 2010, while in high school, for the purpose of creating a platform to introduce his original music to a live audience, Jason formed his first band known today as Jason Damico and the New Blue. New Blue’s current members include: Joel Sugarman (bass/back-up vocals), Kevin Boxell (drums/back-up vocals), Jason Damico (guitar/lead vocals) and an occasional guest appearance by Jim Ferris (saxophone).
Jason enjoys playing, singing, songwriting, recording and producing music for himself and others. To date, Jason Damico has produced “For You” (released February 10, 2010) and“Represent” for C.M. Represent (released September 4, 2011). His debut CD, “Blood, Sweat & Blues” (released September 24, 2014) depicts a work of passion as he wrote all the songs, performed all the instruments, recorded and produced the full CD himself.
"Jason Damico is talented far beyond his years. I first met him when he was about 15 and was impressed by his skill level, his confidence, his professionalism, and his maturity. Whether he’s playing rock, jazz or something in between, Jason delivers an amazing performance. It has been a pleasure watching him grow and develop as a musician and singer. His vocals, timing, and delivery are reminiscent of a young Billy Joel. Rarely do I meet young artists who have the whole package and totally blow me away. Keep your eyes on this one. Soon, we’ll be able to say we knew him when...”
Dori Staehle, Owner, Next Stage Entertainment

“Wow! I had no idea that Jason was only 16?!?!?! (2010) Amazing!! He has a very bright future in front of him. It’s great to see that he is staying busy in all facets of the arts and using his God-given talents. It was a pleasure to meet and work with him. Jason is way ahead of the game. I’m in New York and I know a lot of guys on the high school level that are playing this music and Jason is doing a great job.” Billy Williams…WWW.BWDRUMZ.COM
