Bio

Singer, songwriter and guitar player. For him, music is everything. Since the very beginning of his career, J. Rushwell was involved with many different genres such as rock, latin pop, indie rock, hard rock and heavy metal. However, in order to get in contact with the roots of his favorite genres, he began a journey of full understanding. Influences like Joe Bonamassa, Richie Kotzen, Stevie Ray Vaughn, John Mayer, etc. drove him in the right direction. As a guitar player, he does what is necessary to make his piece work. As a songwriter, he defines himself as a storyteller. His career began with an Indie Rock band called Red O'Clock. They were influenced by Brit sounds which J. absorbed very quickly, creating a local sound for the world. The band's success was incredible, opening for acts such as Foster The People, The Drums, Mike Snow, etc. Because of differences between the members, they parted ways and continued working on their own. J. took advantage of that and created a new musical project called “The South” were he's currently the lead singer and songwriter. J. explores heavy sounds through hard rock and heavy metal genres. Their first album, "Too Young For War, Too Old To Fight", led them to become the opening act for Megadeth and Lita Ford, gaining fans from every venue they played. Showing again that J's above par musicianship is undeniable. Yet there was still music to create and songs to make. In his mind, J. had a collection of songs different from the genres once explored, but songs that showed his “essence.” These songs are the result of the combination of his influences, and the most mature work yet. In his own words: "I'm always looking for the best way to improve, everyday. These songs are very personal but at the same time, everybody can see a reflection of themselves, because all of us have similar experiences that connect ourselves to others. I wanted to do the best I can lyrically and musically, keeping them as simple and straight-forward as I can.” The songs you will listen to are in the early pre-production stages, and they will be in his upcoming record, "Pillars Of Creation,” a name inspired by one of the most iconic images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. "When I found this image I thought it was perfect because I'm trying to create myself in every song I write. So this album would be a new beginning in a sort of way.” Music is what this is all about. It’s a never-ending road leading him to conquer new horizons with words and chords.
