Marquis

Marquis Luxama (born March 1, 1993) is a Haitian American hip hop recording artist from Elizabeth, NJ. In March of 2015, he released "RAISING THE BAR."

Early Life: 

Marquis was born in Elizabeth, NJ on March 1, 1993. Both parents are of Haitian descent. He grew up in a Roselle, NJ in a single parent household with his mother and grandmother after his dad left at the age of four. His mother struggled balancing her school priorities and work in order to raise the young star. Growing up in an urban community, he worked to avoid falling victim to the street life and now uses his personal experiences to tell stories in his lyrics. At the age of 15, Marquis ran into trouble with the law and was sent to Haverhill, Massachusetts with relatives.

Beginnings: 
Marquis started rapping in 2007, when he moved to Massachusetts and was exposed to recording studios by a close friend. He originally favored singing because he was apart of the C.E.A Church of God Choir in Elizabeth, NJ, but he eventually took up an interest in both singing and rapping. He grew up listening to hip-hop because his parents always played it in their household. A few of his favorite artists include Nas, J-Cole, Jay Z, Kanye West, Biggie and Tupac. His first freestyle was a cover of Nas’s record “It Aint Hard to Tell.” He recorded his first song in 2007, titled “Impossible” and many songs came to follow. He dreamed of being a basketball player but was shut down after being rejected for a spot on the varsity basketball team of Haverhill High School. Music became his main focus next to graduating high school. After countless recorded tracks and studio sessions, Marquis met up with producer Star Select (Roodelson Dumas) and began to work on several tracks for his upcoming mixtape “RAISING THE BAR” which was later released on MARCH 1st 2015. He is currently touring the Tri-State area and New England. Among all the other triumphs, he is now the CEO of independent record label, Above All Entertainment LLC
