Bio

“Well, I guess we should hang ourselves to the scales and see."

Born from the buzz of cicadas, Hang Him to the Scales is an Asian indie band from New York City dedicated to exploring the sonic possibilities of alternative rock. Pushing the limit on traditionally Western genres, their escapist songwriting and performance redefines the expectations of the sound and origin of shoegaze. Repping introverts around the world, Hang Him to the Scales uncover vivid dreams, introversion and human complexities in their pursuit of shoegaze and dream pop. And while their mirage-like sound sinks listeners into blissful oblivion, Hang Him to the Scales’ reality as an anomaly—a persevering all East-Asian lineup within a vast scene—makes their one mission to be heard, all the more compelling.

Releasing their Poutine EP in 2023 and one Chinese EP in 2024, the band has performed in music festivals including New Colossus Festival 2023 and Bacchanalia Arts & Music Festival 2022. Steeply ingrained in Chinese instrumentation and cultural nods to the East, Hang Him To The Scales emerges at the forefront of a new generation.
