I’m not sure why more people aren’t talking about EL, other than Hot Rock Supajoint who turned me onto this rock combo. This is a little long for a single, but it’s pretty great and I love the vibe of it. I am really looking forward to hearing all of their Elusion EP after this first tracks release. This is rock’n'roll, with a hint of metal, but I love the aggression of the guitar assault and the pounding drums, because this is lacking in a lot of indie rock I listen to, so maybe it’s just a breath of fresh air. It’s not to metal, it’s not screamo, I don’t know how to characterize it other than just good hard rock that get’s my blood pumping and that’s kind of fun. I know that I don’t like most metal or much progressive rock, but this somehow meets in a middle territory with enough melodicism and musicianship, that I can sit back and simply say, “Yeah, this is pretty great.” Sure, I might have done some things different, but I can’t wait to see these guys live, that’s for sure. - Sounds Around Town - Mitchell Hillman

EL are prog rockers from Arizona featuring members from Daughters of Fission, ZiROH, Fred Green, and Arc of the Aurora. The local Phoenix super group released their propitious debut EP, "Elusion," September 24, 2014.
EL’s masterly-composed EP features one emotive instrumental number and four heavy rockin’ tracks. Overall "Elusion" is rhythmically fantastic, stimulating and catchy in the "off the beaten path" kind of way.
Each band member contributed in the writing process and in creating the structure and flow of the album. It was then mastered at the hands of Ralph Patlan (Megadeth, Flotsam and Jetsam) in Tempe, Arizona.
"Elusion" begins with "Skin Our Knees" and if your ears are anything like mine, you will be hooked after only a few seconds in. "Skin Our Knees" and also the third track, "Doomsayer" both beg to be played live. They each have dynamic building, powerful choruses that are ideal for a crowd to get behind.
Each time I revisit "Elusion," the more I pick up on the subtleties and delicate intricacies woven into the mix. The songs take you on an exploration through the vital intensity of metal fused with the animated groove of progressive rock n' roll
It is hard to say which song is the best, because they are all great, but track two, "80%," seems to capture what EL is all about. And it is all about the prog.
The innovative composition has put "Elusion" on the DaBelly's Best of 2014 list. It is worth your time to check these guys out.

I was down with bands like Tool and Incubus in the 90s (not solely, but you know) and sometimes I feel like there is a vacant space left by these harder rocking bands. Sometimes you want some “heavy rock” (as my uncle would say), but not genre-specific like punk or metal. I want my melody-heavy, beat-dynamic rocknroll – to borrow a phrase from some other local modern prog-rockers Horizon I. Tempe band EL delivers just that. They promise “pounding rhythms, soaring melodies, and wall of sound guitar” and that’s exactly what you find on Elusion. Hard and melodic. Powerful and constrained. Give Elusion a listen here. You’ll probably want to download the EP so you can jam it extra loud in your car. - Yab Yum Music and Arts

Bio
EL’s band members’ paths have crossed many times in the past culminating in what you hear today. Jason and John have written and performed throughout Arizona and the southwest together in various bands, most recently in Daughters of Fission. As the bass player for Fred Green, Sam has experience performing throughout the western U.S. Sam met Jason and John when their bands performed together in the mid 2000’s. Jason has also performed with Fred Green since 2007, filling the role of percussionist and backing vocals. Justin Beemer applied his guitar skills to bands Heroes for Ghosts and Arc of the Aurora throughout the early and mid-2000’s. Justin similarly met Jason and John doing shows together. Jason and Justin also performed together in a project called ZiROH from 2009-2011. With all the cross collaboration between bands, it only seemed natural for the four members of EL to create something new together. The four members of EL have been playing and writing music together since 2012. The concept of EL came to fruition during the latter half of 2013 and early 2014. The band immediately went into the studio and recorded the Elusion EP.
