Bio
Singer-songwriter Genna Matthew delivers an americana folk-pop sound that is both timeless and current, blending pure, sweet vocals with lyrics and stories that strike a chord. A Charlottesville, VA native, she grew up singing and surrounded by a wide variety of music. From a young age, her musical experience ranged from classical and choral singing, to Irish fiddle, classical violin, and guitar. Once she could accompany herself on guitar, she began writing and recording her original music by 15. She quickly found her love for the stage and the recording studio, releasing her first full-length album by the time she finished high school. In college, Genna continued to study classical voice as a member of multiple vocal ensembles, and draws from this rich experience in composing her own melodies and harmonies.
Genna’s bittersweet writing sugarcoats touching truths with honey vocals and warm harmonies, drawing the listener in with relatable, poignant lyrics. Her latest EP, ‘My Old Habits’, released in 2016, delivers a full, driving sound, featuring prominent instrumentalists including Johnny Stubblefield (Parachute), Sam Wilson (Sons of Bill), Chris Pandolfi (Infamous Stringdusters), Butch Taylor (Dave Matthews Band), and Matt Wood (Erin and the Wildfire).
