"Fire In The Pines"

“Without taking away from their originality, one could easily suggest that Fire In the Pines’ music could live comfortably in Neal Young’s song library.”

“…what you hear on the album is pretty much an instance of time, an event that actually occured. Songs were played and recorded from start to finish, just as they were in the old Motown/Phil Spector days.”
-Eric Morales - Bobcat Fans/SMTX

"Podcast: Fire in the Pines on KRFC"

“I’m blown away with the talent in the studio today. World Class. Love the songs, the songwriting. Your harmonies together are just, very inspiring”

“With that last song [Everything Less], man, I’ve so been there, and it’s a release or a relief or… it just makes me feel so much better that somebody else out there has gone through the same thing or something similar and it was just such a beautiful way to express it”

“I think a lot of us think these things or have these feelings come to us and maybe we don’t know what to do with those feelings or how to express those feelings, so when we can connect with the music and connect with artists who are bringing it to us, there’s something very comforting and healing about it for me… You nailed it Ben. It’s very cathartic. You’re doing great. Mission Accomplished.” - Cindy Schneider - 88.9FM Live@Lunch

"Heart Of The Machine, By Fire In The Pines"

"Hard to pin down, easy to love, this debut album recorded live off the floor, realizes a contemporary sound with an unlikely ensemble: wonderfully written songs accompanied by woodwinds, folk instruments, and a full rock band."

Recorded at Cedar Creek Studios in the heart of Austin, TX, and produced by songwriter Kevin Welch, Fire In The Pines' debut album successfully melds Singer/Songwriter Ben Worley’s honest and sharp writing with the free-jazz flow, Country twang and Bluegrass precision of the groups ensemble, using various combinations of over 12 instruments, and six players.

The membership of the band can partly be understood by their shared love of a place as much as by their musical camaraderie. Most of the members grew up together in San Marcos, just south of Austin, TX. San Marcos is home to it’s own eclectic culture, including a diverse songwriting community which has fed the insatiable Austin music appetite for decades, and from which Fire In The Pines now emerges. (from Press Release) - No Depression

Hard to pin down, easy to love, Fire In The Pines’ debut album, Heart Of The Machine, was recorded live off the floor at Cedar Creek Studios in Austin, TX, and was produced by Artist/Songwriter Kevin Welch.  Fire In The Pines realizes a contemporary sound by melding native Texan, Ben Worley’s honest and sharp folk writing, with the free-jazz flow, Country twang and Bluegrass precision of the groups unlikely ensemble, featuring woodwinds, folk instruments, and a full rock band.

Eric Morales from SMTX magazines says, “…what you hear on the album is pretty much an instance of time, an event that actually occurred. Songs were played and recorded from start to finish, just as they were in the old Motown/Phil Spector days.”

During an interview with Folk Salad in Tulsa, host Richard Higgs observes, "You don't have a horn section where your just punching it, you have a soloist- and it's nice to hear a horn and a banjo in the same song. You don't often hear that anymore, if you ever did!"

The cohesive membership of the band can partly be understood by their shared love of a place as much as by their musical camaraderie. Members of the band have grown up together, worked construction, and even lived together in a town called San Marcos, just south of musical metropolis, Austin, TX. San Marcos is home to a thriving eclectic culture, including a diverse songwriting community which has fed the insatiable Austin music appetite for decades, and from which Fire In The Pines now emerges.  Live performances have been described as passionate, powerful, and not to be missed. “…the spontaneous and loose way in which the six players interacted was a thing of beauty.” – Anna Van Voorhis of The Mac Weekly says.  From studios to garage parties to cowboy saloons, even large concert venues, Fire In The Pines always manages to "channel the spirit" as guitarist Chris Nelson once described it during an interview/on-air performance in Fort Collins, CO.  Following one of the songs the host exclaimed “I’m blown away with the talent in the studio today. World Class. Love the songs, the songwriting.  Your harmonies together are just, very inspiring” – Cindy Schneider | 88.9FM KRFC Live@Lunch
