He’s only been making music seriously for 2 years and is already raising the bar for independent artists in the game. Making his way to the scene with his hit single "I’m Gone", E. Rilla should be an artist on your watchlist.

For starters, please introduce yourself and let them know where you are from.

It's the realest E. Rilla straight out of Aiken, SC. Here to change the way your hear Hip-Hop.

I would like to ask how you got the name E. Rilla?

To start off, my real name is Eric Carter, but I wanted something real, some to stand out. “E” is for Eric of course, and “Rilla” comes from just keeping it real with myself and everyone around me. I have to be Rilla because there's a lot of fakes in the game now.

Describe your sound and style to someone who has never heard your music before.

Different and Unique.

If your style and music had to be compared to one person, who would it be and why?

One person is hard but if I had to choose it would be Jay-Z. I say this because of his thought process. The way he analyzes everything to the point he knows his fans will be satisfied and exceed expectations.

Which artists did you listen to growing up? Who influenced you?

As a kid I couldn't walk through the house without hear my uncle blasting 2Pac all day everyday. I had no choice but to like him. But I thank my uncle for that, because that mad me the artist I am today.

Who and what do you draw your inspiration from when creating your music?

Inspiration comes from my life and everything I have experienced.



Describe your creative process when making music.

Sometimes I take a while off from the lab, just to hear new music and what direction it headed in. So when I get back to the booth I have lot to talk about and it’s all real because I've either experienced it or witnessed it.

What is your idea of the perfect song?

A perfect song to me is a song that you can tell you took time and dedication for it. Not something freestyled in minutes and thrown together

What would you say has been the biggest accomplishment in your career so far?

Growing my fanbase fan by fan has to be my biggest accomplishment so far. This is something I have worked hard for and nobody can take it away.

What projects are you currently working on?

I'm working on a number of things now. I have Dru, Conan and Gvine… all great talented producers working on my EP that's coming out very soon.

Who are some people in the music industry you would like to work with in the future and why?

I would definitely like to work with Pharrell, Timbaland and Andre 3000.

What is your ultimate goal in Hip-Hop?

To bring it back! People listen to rap and automatically assume that’s all Hip-Hop. Rap and Hip-Hop are two different genres. I think that's why it's in the direction it is now.
