Bio
One of the most fascinating things about New Jersey’s Drive the Bus is that they defy the confines of traditional genres. While one song can be an ode to ‘70s punk rock, the next has a bluesy-rock feel that can’t be denied. It’s no wonder they’ve drawn comparisons to acts as diverse as The Who, Grand Funk Railroad, and The Ramones.
On top of that, they hold a kind of old school ferocity that simply doesn’t exist with emerging bands today. Their relentless tenacity is a force to be reckoned with, and in a society that values Facebook numbers over talent, DTB throws out social norms to make music they love first and foremost. No rules, no restrictions, just a love of music and a desire to show the world everything they’ve got. Just five guys who love music, surfing, and family. In fact, it was a family event, the passing of Michael’s wife Judy, that inspired the band’s inception.
“While she was still with us, I spoke to Judy and said that if anything were to happen to her, I would sell the family business and spend the rest of my life surfing and making music.” Michael Lagana (guitar/vocals) explains.
Today, that’s exactly what he does. As resident “old guy” of the band, Michael, 53, along with the help of his son and fellow bandmates, Sam (drums/percussion/vocals), Dean Dunlevy (bass/vocals), Dan Senico (guitar/vocals), and Cameron Friedman (keys/vocals), all ranging from 17-19 years old, make up the band. This is a band that fully acknowledges they’re still growing—yet that’s what makes the process so much fun.
“It’s been an incredible ride, writing and making music with all these very talented young guys. We all understand this is a journey, and are constantly reminding ourselves to ALWAYS have fun along the way. We really look forward to continuing to create a clearly distinctive Drive The Bus sound.” says Michael Lagana.
DTB is currently working on their debut album, “Head of the Class,” which is set for distribution in the Spring of 2016, with a September follow up. (We told you they were ambitious, didn’t we?) You can keep up with the band at:
