"Runnin' Down A Dream" by Tom Petty is one accurate way of describing myself using the fewest words. It applies to me, not merely for pursuing the next musical thrill at the age of sixty-four, but rather more intensely and most importantly, I'm seeking the dream of the eternal prize - the heavenly kingdom. I try to use God's gift of music to attract others to that place of everlasting bliss.
One of the more difficult questions for me to answer, is when I'm asked to name an artist that my music sounds like. I explore sound that expresses my thoughts and moods at any given moment. It's a passion that has never waned. On one piece, it might remind a listener of Zack Williams, on another one maybe James Taylor, still another might say Neil Young, or Arlo Guthrie even, if I'm feeling playful. I rarely respond to a craving to create with a certain genre in mind and even less so trying to emulate a certain artist's sound - at least not at this point in my forty-five-plus years of crafting songs and sounds.
My teen years and early adulthood told a different story. Looking back, it seemed like it was all about sounding like someone else, because I wasn't embracing my own natural style. I didn't like, nor was I comfortable with my noise. I wanted to sound like Rod Stewart, Steven Stills, or Robert Plant (who didn't, back then?) I still cringe when hearing myself sometimes, just not as often. For they, who have a better or favorable reaction to my sound - I perform.
