Bio
Trains, death, drinking, and love -- in that order.
"Double Tracks" is the acoustic duo partnership of Rob Hammel, finger-style guitarist and vocalist, and Rene Carlson, harmonica player and vocalist.
They distinguish themselves with an impressive book of roots, blues, folk, classic country and gospel, keeping this important part of our country's musical heritage alive and vibrant.
Hailing from Mahopac, NY, Rob has been playing and performing for 35 years. He has studied with masters of the finger-pick style and musicians steeped in American roots tradition. Rob performs with sharply-focused strength, honesty, and laconic humor, drawing the audience in and connecting them to century-old songs that still speak profoundly to personal and human experience.
Rene picked up the harmonica when she was 12 and has been playing ever since. She is one of the New York area's finest and most distinctive harmonica players, not to mention one of relatively few female players. Equally at home with many styles of music, she has performed in rock bands, on live country radio, with a jazz quartet, and with blues and gospel notables. Rene exquisite, heart-felt, and occasionally wicked-fast playing adds flavor and dimension to the music she and Rob perform.
Together Rob and Rene give new voice to these very special genres of American music.
