DJ Rachael:
Through education: I have a project back home that teaches girls how to DJ and produce music - it’s called Femme Electric. I’m getting girls into this program and making sure they learn the technical aspect of making music. I want them realize that they can achieve success in whatever passion they feel like pursuing. It’s not just about the music - when someone looks at a successful person they realize there is so much they too can accomplish. Everyone might not turn out to be a DJ or a producer but they’ll have the confidence to know that they can be successful in their chosen path. - STEPHANIE SMITH-STRICKLAND
What advice would you give to young women in music?
It’s always good to identify where your prowess lies and concentrate on that. You can be a jack of all trades but it’s wise to stick to something you feel at peace with.

Keep your focus and don’t be misled by power-hungry men and quick success stories. They are riddled with guilt trips and regret. It takes time to be a success; it’s never born overnight. If you want it quick then that kind of growth will also dissipate in a flash and cannot be termed as success.

Bio
DJ Rachael, is a Los Angeles-based House, Afrohouse, and Ethno Music DJ/Producer. The first Ugandan & East African woman DJ, she has a strong presence on the East African underground electronic music scene and is a versatile all rounder leaning towards House /Electronic /Experimental/Afrohouse /African Bass/ Eclectic sounds. Rachael has become well-known for her unique sound that blends traditional rhythms with modern beats. She has performed at some of the most popular venues and festivals in the world and has gained a loyal following of fans who appreciate her ability to create an energetic and uplifting fun atmosphere. Mixing up styles from across the world effortlessly, Rachael pioneered a ‘melting pot’ style in Uganda that has created a ripple effect wherever she plays and has enraptured audiences over and over.
As her reputation grew, Rachael became increasingly passionate about sharing their love of music with others. In 2016, she co-founded Femme Electronic, a collective dedicated to teaching girls and women how to DJ and produce music in East Africa. Through workshops and mentorship programs, Rachael has helped to empower a new generation of female DJs and producers, promoting diversity and inclusivity in the industry. Today Rachael continues to be an advocate for gender equality in music and an inspiration to aspiring Dj/producers around the world. With their infectious energy and unique blend of musical styles, DJ Rachael is sure to keep the dance floor moving for years to come.
She featured with the Black Madonna (the Blessed Madonna) on the documentary Women Equalizing Music to help level the ground for women Djs. DJ Rachael made a headline appearance at United Streets Of America art festival at the Hollywood Boulevard & recently made a cameo at Panorama Bar (Berghain) Berlin at the CTM festival. Her mixes feature her own edits, fresh productions and remixes alongside handpicked bangers. She is working on her EP “Shreds of Gunda” due for release 2023.
