Toronto, ON – Toronto rapper-producer David Versis just released a new single on us titled “Kill The Lights.”
This release comes to us following some very exciting news for Versis: he did production work on Wiz Khalifa’s Blacc Hollywood album, which has just been nominated for a 2015 Grammy. Huge shout-out to Versis on that one, and for putting himself on the map. Dude’s been making waves on the scene for the last few years so it’s so dope to see him getting that shine. Other recent Versis credits include work on Yo Gotti and T.I.’s monstrous “King Sh*t” joint.
But let’s backtrack to this “Kill The Lights” release, here. Versis hits us with a suave R&B–tinged sexy sex song that was self-produced in conjunction with Mikhail. Despite the sexy undertones, this song is actually really sad because the whole “kill the lights” thing refers to a relationship fizzling out. David is pretty shook up. - Hip Hop Canada
It is safe to say that the infamous futuristic “Toronto Sound” is soon to (if it hasn’t already) takeover music here in the States. The arrival of David Versis is proof of that. The now Grammy Nominated producer (Wiz Khalifa, Blacc Hollywood) has been dropping bomb singles for the last couple of months. His most recent track Kill The Lights proves he can fast forward you in time with his sound but allow you to stay in touch with reality. In the song he speaks on the most mysterious thing known to women: the male perspective post-breakup.
“You were the only one I would run to, I was the only you was stuck too…”
“You serenade me with F*** you’s…”
“All I want to do is kiss you that’s the F*** thing…”
“You cry girl, I punch things…”
After listening to Versis new hit, I’m sure you will probably understand the many phases to a break-up. - Respect Mag
As a young artist enjoying your first taste of fame and fortune, it’s easy to get Carried Away and forget why you’re grinding in the first place. If anyone has the strength of will to weather the game’s many temptations without taking his eye off the prize, though, it’s David Versis. Last heard showcasing his sub-zero flows on December 2012’s The Coldest, the T-Dot buzzmaker returns to our pages with a fresh promo single addressing his lofty aspirations in the industry, as well as the perilous allure of the fast life. Arthur McArthur mans the mixing boards, crafting a piano-loop groove that drips with steely determination. Carried Away is unattached to any larger project, but those feeling it can, of course, watch our pages for the latest news and tunes from this ambitious up-and-comer. - DJ Booth
