Darryl Evan Jones entrance to the world of music began at eight years of age. Born and raised in the housing projects of the South Bronx, his parents saw music as a good distraction from the lures of the streets. Darryl soon fell in love with music, beginning with Classical music. He found himself the center of attention at various musical events, and was highly sought after for featured and ensemble performances. Darryls musical interests continued to expand through his early teens, and included Gospel, Blues, and Funk. Football and bodybuilding began to consume most of his time into his twenties. However, once Darryl made up his mind to return to his love of music, everyone took notice.

The same way that people who love Darryls music are often surprised to learn he is also an accomplished commercial aircraft mechanic, he aims to reflect the wide array of influences that inspired him to dream of a music career in the first place. Beyond the in the pocket up tempo funk tunes and ballads that capture the essence of some of todays Jazz, he ventures into old school R&B/Jazz, Blues, Latin and Gospeleven a touch of Classical movements. In Darryls musical world, which began playing with his brothers in church and included a gig with the Bronx Borough-wide Band at Carnegie Hall during junior high school, the flute becomes a portal into a world of grooving, jazzy new adventures. Shattering expectations and preconceived notions of what he and his flute should sound like, Darryl freely and creatively focuses on the beauty of his musical expression.

The musical style of Darryl Evan Jones is truly original; combining the genres of Jazz, Classical, and Gospel music. He calls his style Instrumental Soul. Darryl insists that hes a soul singer who cant sing, and expresses his emotions through his flute. I am a fan of all kinds of music and listen to just about everything, he says. I deliberately ignore critics who say that you must like only this or that, or play only one style instead of incorporating a lot of unique melodic and rhythmic ideas. Thats nonsense. If it speaks to me and I feel it, I will listen to it and play it. I love everything from David Sanborn to Bon Jovi, Earth, Wind & Fire to Beethoven, Kenny Rogers to Chaka Kahn. Why limit ourselves?

The journey of the fluteman has brought him to performances stages at The Cannon Center in Memphis, the Apollo Theater in Harlem, and the Providence Performing Arts Center in Providence. Darryl has wowed audiences with names like Jeffrey Osbourne, and Grover Washington, Jr., and opened for artists like Kem, and Boney James.
Otherwise, you can find him dazzling a grand cross-section of people where ever he performs. Nothing like the flute man and a glass of wine, its been said. When Darryl plays, its like angels are singing, another fan contends.
