A talented young singer/songwriter from Guelph is on her way thanks to a major cosmetics company.
Danielle Todd heard about Avon's online singing competition from her Aunt and with some help from her Dad she entered her video.
The talented field for the "AVON Voices" singing competition has been narrowed to 100 from over 6,000.
100 will be scaled down to 25 next week. In order for Danielle to make the top 25 list, she needs your help.

Local resident Danielle Todd has been chosen to move on to the second phase of an online singing competition for women.
She’s one of 197 contestants chosen from 5,500 around the world who entered Avon’s talent contest, known as Avon Voices, a news release said. The cosmetics company is flying the North American winners to Nashville, Tenn., for interviews, hair and make-up makeovers, and video shoots on March 20th and 21, the release said. The competitors’ videos will be posted on the Avon Voices website, and voting for contestants opens to the public starting on April 22.
Winners will be decided by a combination of public and panel votes.
Todd, 21, has been performing across Ontario for several years, the release said.
The recent winner of Breakfast Television’s “O Canada” singing contest, she won the opportunity to sing at the Rogers Centre before a crowd of over 51,000 football fans to open a Chicago Bears vs. Buffalo Bills football game, it said. - Guelph Tribune
GUELPH — Danielle Todd has a lot to sing about these days.
The Guelph singer-songwriter has been busy promoting her first CD and riding high on news she has moved up in the Avon Voices singing competition.
“Out of more than 6,000 women from across the world, I’ve made it to the second round which is the top 100 women,” said Todd. “I’ve been bugging people on Facebook and handing out business cards telling them to vote for me and hopefully I make it to the next round in Hollywood.”
Voting closes June 20 and the semi finalists will be announced July 1.
“That’s down to 25 women so that’s a big cut,” said Todd.
Between July 14 and 19 semi finalists will be flown to Hollywood for professional vocal coaching, an Avon makeover, interviews and a video performance.
The group of 25 semi-finalists will compete to be among the 10 finalists who will perform at the finale in New York, on Nov. 1, when the winner will be announced.
Todd said the experience to this point has been a reward in itself but she almost didn’t do it.
“My aunt came online on Facebook one day and said check this out and I did then I had to go to work,” said Todd “I kind of forgot about it for a couple days and then I went back on line and the video was due that day so I called up my dad and said we have to make a video and we have to do it right now.”
She and her father, local musician Jamie Todd, shot a 30 second clip of her singing the Bette Midler hit From A Distance a cappella and submitted it just ahead of deadline.
“There were over 6,000 videos up online from across the world,” said Todd. “Then I got this email saying congratulations you’ve made it to Round 1 and we are sending you to Nashville and I was like sweet.”
They put her up in the Gaylord Opryland Hotel just a mile from the Grand Ole Opry.
“We recorded two videos while we were down there and the Avon Voices staff was amazing,” she said. “I just went in and sang my song a couple times and they made it really comfortable in the studio.”
When she got home she got back to work promoting her 8-song CD Between You and Me and playing five or six shows a week. Fans voted by registering on the Avon Voices website avonvoices.com. At the end of May she learned she had made it to Round 2 and a new round of voting began.
“So I’ve just been bugging everybody to vote for me,” she said. I’ve been going around to schools. I played at Ken Danby and played for the Grade 7 and 8s. I’ve been at GCVI doing announcements singing Oh Canada to them just trying to do everything I can to get some votes.”
The winners will be selected based on on-line votes and the decisions of an international panel of judges.
“They have Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas, Diane Warren, the queen of percussion Sheila E., award-winning producer David Pack, Natasha Bedingfield and six other international judges,” said Todd. “It’s just such an amazing contest and an amazing opportunity. ‘

One would think singing the Canadian national anthem in front of over 50,000 screaming fans might make a person at least a little bit nervous. For City TV Breakfast Television Bill’s Anthem Contest winner, Danielle Todd, it was exhilarating.
“I kept thinking why am I not nervous yet, I should be nervous. I was thinking that right until I went out onto the field and started singing,” said Todd. “I was more excited. The feeling of being nervous and the feeling of being excited is the exact same feeling, it’s just the way you interpret it.”
Todd entered the Bills Anthem Contest on the last possible day. She submitted a video of her singing Canada’s national anthem to City TV in Toronto.
“I thought that I had a pretty good chance [to win],” said Todd.
The top four contestants were chosen to perform live on City TV’s Breakfast Television.
Todd was picked as one of the top four, each contestant performed a portion of the anthem live and the winner was determined by people voting on the internet.
“It was an honour to think that that many people voted for me. For me to win it was an honour,” said Todd.
The young musician’s dream is to be a professional musician; she writes her own music and is focused on making singing into her career.
So when Breakfast television host, Kevin Frankish announced Todd as the winner, she was so excited that she turned around and gave him a big hug.
“I didn’t know what else to do, it was funny,” said Todd.
Winning the contest provided Todd wish exposure and attention from many people who otherwise might never of heard about the talented young singer. After being announced as the Bills Anthem Contest winner, she took the media by storm.
“So many people called and wanted interviews,” said Todd. “I was on four radio stations and I was in three newspapers. I was all over the place. That’s huge exposure for that many people to hear you on Breakfast television and in front of 50,000 football fans.”
Todd was a busy lady the week leading up to her performance, there was only enough time for her to practice the anthem once in advance of Sunday Nov. 7.
Todd was dressed in Buffalo Bills apparel on game day when she was brought out to perform the anthem.
“I had the Bills scarf on and everything,” said Todd. “Then they brought me to the Chicago Bears side, I had these six foot six, 300 pound players surrounding me and they’re on the opposite team. I was a little bit scared about that.”
Todd planned to sing the song simply, for everyone to enjoy.
“It’s meant to be a simple song, it’s meant for everyone to sing along and for everyone to be a part of it,” said Todd. “I sang the song how it was meant to be sung. It’s not for me to change.”
Todd’s performance of the anthem seemed to pump up the crowd.
“At the end [of the anthem] I couldn’t even hear myself,” said Todd. “The crowd was singing and cheering. It was just so loud.”

One of the young talents we are keeping an eye on is Canadian singer/songwriter Danielle Todd. She contacted us via Twitter about her cover of the Taylor Swift song 'Fifteen'. Danielle does a fantastic job with this song and it just reinforces our opinion that Swift has some really good songs as long as she does not try to sing them herself.

Guelph musician to perform national anthem at NFL game

Danielle Todd has never been front and centre in the way she will be Sunday.
The 20-year-old local musician won the right to sing O Canada at Toronto’s Rogers Centre prior to the NFL game between the Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears.
While singing backup in a band, Todd performed before “a few thousand people.” As a soloist, she’s performed before “about a thousand.”
More than 30,000 fans are expected to attend Sunday’s game.
“I haven’t got nervous, yet,” Todd said.
Fans of City TV’s Breakfast Television voted Todd as the winner among four finalists in the Canadian National Anthem Contest.
The contest drew so many online voters to the show’s website they crashed the server, according to Todd.
“I’m so happy that many people voted for me,” Todd said. “It’s an honour.”
Todd’s been taking private music lessons since she graduated from Guelph CVI and wants to make a career out of singing.
“Obviously, this is going to help my career. I want to be a full-time musician,” Todd said. “This is going to give a big jump to my career.”
Metalworks Studios of Mississauga touched base with Todd shortly after her contest win. And she’s since been on a whirlwind interview tour with Ontario radio stations.
“I’m a popular girl right now,” she joked.
Todd said she’s looking forward to Sunday.
“It’s going to be so much fun to sing in front of that many people, especially singing our national anthem,” she said.
Todd, unlike many who sing the anthem prior to sporting events, says she’s going to keep it simple and not try and make the song her own.
“I’m going to sing it the way it was meant to be performed,” said Todd, who hopes fans will sing along. “It’s not my song, it’s everyone’s song and I’m going to keep it the way it is.

Danielle Todd is in the studio recording her debut full length album, on the heels of recording two tracks for a compilation CD, by several artists, which will be promoted to radio stations, nation wide in Canada. If Todd’s debut recording is anything like her performance at the Latitude restaurant on July 17th, pop music fans will be more than willing to plunk down their credit card for legal downloading of a few of her tunes.
Dressed in a turquoise spaghetti strap blouse and blue jeans, and with her brown bangs falling ever slow slightly above her eyes, the Guelph, Ontario (Canada) native Todd, opened with a cover of fellow Canadian singer / songwriter Chantal Kreviazuk’s song “Time,” while she sat at her electric keyboard. She followed up “Time,” with an original piece, the plaintive love letter, “Beautiful.”
Midway through the first of three sets, Todd demonstrated passionate and strong vocals with her cover of Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi,” and then changed directions, with a soulful rendition of Van Morrison’s “Crazy Love.”
With her interpretation of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” a tune on which her phrasing was impeccable, and on which she once again demonstrated that she knows when to linger on a note or word, and when to amp it up, Todd fully embraced the passion of Cohen’s masterful songwriting. The audience responded with their most vigorous applause of the evening.
The last two songs of Todd’s opening set were original compositions, one being a country song dedicated to a friend with whom she was having a conversation, which served as the inspiration for the song, and final number of the first set being the soft pop tune “Next To You.”
Todd opened the second set with her own passionate song, “The Good Guy,” a tune in which the singer tries to both convince her former love to return to her and gets her claws out, as she takes shots at his new love interest.
Other highlights from Danielle Todd’s performance included a solid cover of Sarah McLachlan’s “In The Arms Of An Angel,” and “Top Of The World,” by the Dixie Chicks.
Danielle Todd is a promising singer / songwriter who will get even better as she hones her craft. She possesses powerful vocals and she is capable of comfortably singing in the higher octaves and lower range as a soprano. Todd comes by her musical ability naturally, as her father Jamie Todd (bass guitarist) and her uncle Rick Todd (drummer) toured with the band Hourglass.

Canadian singer-songwriter Danielle Todd can silence a room with her nightingale voice, capture a crowd with her gripping songwriting, and move each soul to tears with her delicate story telling. From the moment she steps on stage to the very last note that echoes through the room, Danielle manages to invite each audience member into her life and to become part of her family.
“I grew up in a beautiful family. We support each other, laugh with each other, and most importantly we listen to each other. I’ve always tried to make my fans feel like they are part of my family because I think I am very lucky to have them and I cherish them like I do my own family.”
Both on and off stage Danielle believes that it is important for each fan to relate to her. Whether it is through a cheerful song about her first love, a spine chilling story about her best friend’s heartbreak, or a quiet and intimate one on one conversation offstage, Danielle opens her heart up to each and every one of her fans. “One of my favourite moments that I’ve ever experienced in this industry was at a show in Sauble Beach. I sang a song that I wrote about mental health and talked about how mental health awareness is important to me. After my set that night, a woman came up to me almost in tears and thanked me for the song. All I could do was hug her because I knew she was struggling. I will never forget the moment we shared. I was happy that I helped her even if it was just a little bit.”
In 2011, Danielle released her first CD “Between You and Me…” with wild success. Since then she has been touring Canada, Australia and the United States. In 2014, Danielle released her next 4 song EP “The One for Me” recorded at Northwood Studios, Ontario. This EP was sold offstage for a year while she planned her next project. Her most recent CD “Danielle Todd Live at Two Chick’s Café” was recorded live in Sauble Beach, Ontario on the weekend of May 24th 2015. With fireworks in the background, Danielle serenaded the crowd all weekend. Danielle released her live CD to a sold out crowd in October 2015.
“I am so happy I decided to do a live CD. The audience became a part of the recording which I think is very special. Music is like my journal. I literally wrapped up my weekend in a melody and my fans and I will be able to relive it over and over.”
Fast forward to 2017 and Danielle now resides in Nashville after leaving her hometown of Guelph, Ontario to focus on her solo career. She regularly performs at venues such as Tootsie’s and the world famous ‘Honky Tonk Central‘. She will continue songwriting and plans to release new material in the near future.
