Bio
2021 marked a milestone for Dale Keys as a songwriter, with Grammy-winner Tim O’Brien performing Dale’s song “Five Miles In” live at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. O’Brien also recorded the song on his most recent solo project “He Walked On.”
An Idaho resident since 1984, Dale grew up in Kentucky and discovered the music of Chet Atkins when he was about ten years old. He taught himself to play Chet’s unique finger-style guitar through countless hours by the record player. Dale visited Nashville in 2002 intending to stay a couple of weeks and remained for a year and a half. He recorded his debut in 2003, produced by Barry Tashian. Dale hosted his own Writers-In-The-Round shows at the Bluebird Café, including shows with Tim O’Brien and mandolin great Sam Bush. He was also a featured guest on the show The Songwriters Series, recorded live on Nashville’s NPR affiliate WPLN. Dale lives in Boise with his wife Kim, son Logan, and Hawkeye the Dog.
