In the early 90's, I was writing an article on veteran pianist and Dizzy Gillespie alumus Howard "Duke" Anderson. I asked him, who were some of the young piano players to look out for. He mentioned three, Cyrus Chestnut, Benny Green, and Daille Kettrell. I told him that I was familiar with the first two, but not the third. He stated that Kettrell was one of his students, who had recently moved to East Orange from her native Camden. Although it was still early in her development as a jazz player, he was certain that once all the pieces were together, she would be among the best.
Fast forwarding eighteen years, this pianist /composer/singer is poised and ready to jump into the deep and swinging waters of the mainstream jazz world....On her debut CD "The Rite Time, The Rite Moment," Daille Kettrell demonstrates that she's got the right stuff. - Terry Royful

Daille Kettrell is a Camden, NJ native and professional artist for over a decade, who has worked with the late Lionel Hampton, the late R & B artist Vesta Williams, jazz artist/flutist Bobbi Humphrey, and smooth jazz artist Gordon James. In October of 2011, she appeared on Mallet's Place -TV, Cable Channel 34-Staten Island, where she was able to be interviewed and showcase her music with host Jason Taylor. Daille was interviewed by host Ellen Carter with radio station WPFW, 89.3 Jazz-DC in August of 2010, and her songs from her CD, "The Rite Time, The Rite Moment" were featured. As a composer, she received an honorable mention for her composition, "The Next Plateau" in the 2003 John Lennon Songwriting Contest.
Daille has a B. A. Degree in Music from Clark University. She studied jazz piano and arranging with Howard "Duke" Anderson, Barry Harris, and Norman Simmons. In 2012 she attended the Women's Music Summit in Big Indian, NY, participating in workshops under the direction of Me'shell Ndegeocello, Malina Moye, Marnie Stern, and Maria Auf Der Maur with gifted artists from around the globe.
Daille Kettrell has been on her journey since 1993 when she founded the group, Rites of Passage, which today has become Daille Kettrell & Khamelion. She has been performing regularly at The Priory Restaurant in Newark, NJ since 2005 and The Private Place Lounge in Orange, NJ since 2008. At both venues she has a core group of fans. Her CD Release for "The Rite Time, The Rite Moment" was held at The Priory on September 19, 2008. She has performed at the COX 2009 Omaha Riverfront Jazz & Blues Festival in Omaha, NE, The 2008 Long Branch Jazz & Blues Festival in Long Branch, NJ, WBGO Jazz-FM 88 Newark Radio Children's Concerts and Receptions, Birdland, and the 55 Bar in Manhattan, NY; Trumpets Jazz Restaurant in Montclair, NJ, the Priory Restaurant in Newark, NJ, and Chris' Jazz Cafe and Warmdaddy's in Philadelphia, PA. For the past six years she has been the keyboardist for the tri-state Wilmington, DE based popular band, Pristine Raeign.
Daille is a member of ASCAP, the American Federation of Musicians, and the Clef Club of Philadelphia, PA.
Daille can perform in solo format on piano and/or keyboards, or add pieces as needed to the client's taste. She has a rich, sultry alto voice. This music can best be described as highly sophisticated, but "good feeling" so that anyone can relate and enjoy. Her musical influences include: Quincy Jones, Mary Lou Williams, Horace Silver, George Duke, Thelonious Monk, Patrice Rushen, Prince, George Clinton, Stevie Wonder, Sarah Vaughan, Jill Scott, and Erykah Badu just to name a few. What sets Daille Kettrell & Khamelion apart from other bands is that the organization is constantly evolving and mutating to present fresh, creative music of all genres blended together. This is a synthesis of styles unified smoothly inside a GROOVE, not a mish-mosh. The chameleon is an animal that changes colors to adapt to its environment, and this is what Daille Kettrell & Khamelion is about. With the lineup Daille selected, the band is definitely a force to be reckoned with.
Daille is currently working on and producing original music in the genres of hip-hop/r&b, pop, smooth jazz, blues, country, and jazz.
