Coming in second and collecting 33.69 points on the night was Collington. This band hails from Providence and consists of one or two members. On the band, I only have a few comments. First, Collington is a folk/ rock/acoustic band that is not in my musical taste, but because of the strong very balanced vocals and strong playing ability on the guitar, it makes it pleasant to listen to. Another comment on Collington is that the stage presence is a little stiff. Though I guess it would look odd if he was jumping around while playing melodic folk. In all, though the crowd did not receive him well yet he ranks high on my ranking because of the talent. - The Anchor
Several years since the for- mation of the solo project that has grown to include several other RI based musicians Col- lington celebrates one of the first major milestones with the release of their first long play album “Feet on the Ground” on April 7. This marks Collington’s second release following his EP “Good Morning.” Collington can be described as a combination of styles including Acoustic, folk and laid back rock that produces a peaceful sound that’s easy to listen to. Starting his music career after high school James Collington began writing and recording. Soon after Collington played at his local church for his friends before he took his talents to the road. Over the past several years Collington has performed across the area moving to larger venues and shows, most recently competing in 90.7 WXIN’s Rock Hunt this past Thursday. Beginning as a solo project Collington has moved to include other musicians in their live performances including Jessica Shoe, who lends her vocals to several tracks, and Michael Kirby who plays bass guitar. In an interview, James Collington said that he feels that he has grown as a musician and that his second release feels more mature and developed. He also stated that the main difference between “Feet on the Ground” and “Good Morning” would be that his upcoming release had more resources invested in its production, and unlike his EP was finished since he said the mastering of his first release was cut short due to complications. While his first release was a strong EP, I have to agree that Collington has leaped forward in regards to sound. “Feet on the Ground” feels more polished and is a more complete album all in all. There’s not a single song on the 10 track LP that I can nitpick for complaints, and Collington does a good job of balancing more energetic tracks with slower songs over the course of LP. However even Collington’s energetic songs still carry the laid back and relaxing vibe that the artist seems to be aiming for. Some of “Feet on the Ground’s” most stand out tracks are “Marching” and “Ahead,” but Collington brings back some of his earlier release including the title track from “Good Morning.” “…it’s a blessing to be able to do this.” James Collington said in an interview when asked about the future of the project. Collington plans to continue playing shows in the future and hopes to continue to grow. Collington will hold a release show on April 7 to cel- ebrate “Feet on the Ground” at Providence Coffee Roasters at 7 p.m. Those interested can pre order with James in person or purchase the album on the artist’s merch site. Bio
Collington is a music
project by singer/songwriter James Collington that combines heart purging
lyrics & tones.
James began writing in 2009 between college semesters.
Struggling to find truth in existence, he began to look for a way to embody
both his feelings of anxiety as well as his longing for divine purpose. Knowing
that life is easier to believe in cognitive truths
than to be walked out in faith, he started his journey by musically advancing
steps forward.
Recording with different producers and different
sound engineers, Collington began releasing music. It was during this time
spent in the studio that James, keeping a watchful eye on how to produce and
engineer, learned to produce his own records. Initially releasing a demo EP,
Collington began playing shows within the small region of New England.
To date, Collington has released 4 albums while
staying in touch with heartfelt roots. Sharing the stage with national artists,
playing shows as a national artist and with multiple tours under his belt. In
November, 2013, Collington released his newest full-length album titled,
East//West .
East//West is Collingtonâ₏™s most mature album
regarding its aptitude & production. The self-funded album embodies modern
and raw-folk tone resemblances while being host to atmospheric ambiance.
